you can get a liquid from the flight attendants once you are airborne.

2. It's not like you can't get water on the plane.

Either ask the flight attendants, or you'll generally find a stock of paper cups and a faucet in the toilets. Not the best tasting water in the world, but potable, and certainly preferable to dehydration.
