One in four Opera Lovers smoke dope.
http://www.lse.co.uk/ShowStory.asp?story=KH1329011C&news_headline=one-in-four_opera_lover_smoke_cannabis

They might be considered to be cultured and sophisticated - but many classical music and opera lovers could be cannabis-smoking criminals, according to the largest ever academic survey of musical taste.

The report showed a quarter of them admitted having smoked cannabis, and one-in-eight opera fans had tried magic mushrooms.

The research, carried out on more than 2,500 people in the UK about to be published in the journal Psychology of Music, shows that a person's musical preference tells a great deal about their lifestyle and interests.

Dr North, a psychologist at the University of Leicester which carried out the survey, said: "There's a real tendency for people who like certain types of music to be stereotyped - for example that hip-hop and rap fans are far more likely to be drug-taking law breakers.

Part of the reason I married my wife was our mutual love of the Tunes de Loony. We used to do "Bongs and Bugs" every Saturday. I can't find him anywhere on cable now ;(

34. You're sadly correct. "Bugs" is long gone from regular airplay
Edited on Thu Sep-14-06 07:11 PM by mcscajun
even on cable. The kids have moved on...hell, even the kids who watched the kiddie Bugs stuff have moved on. You want a fix now, You have to own the DVDs.

And many of our favorite Warner Bros. cartoons were censored long ago and may never be seen uncut again outside of the Museum of Television and Radio, if there.

5. Not surprising........
I've always found music more enjoyable while under the influence. Opera, however, would take some thai-stick to keep me in the seat until the Fat Lady sang. ;)

10. And here I was, thinking that cigarette factory where Carmen works
was JUST rolling 'em out of tobacco.

Come to think of it, the whole opera makes a lot more sense that way. When Don Jose becomes insanely jealous and stabs her to death, it's not obsession talking: it's Reefer Madness! Ooh!

18. Opera lovers are a breed apart. We get high on Puccini, for instance
Just try on "Nessun Dorma." It is the aria that the 3 tenors made so famous. Man, by the time you get to the final "Vincero! Vincero! Vincero!" ("I will win!)you are transported. Or try "Vissi d'arte" or "Mi chiamino Mimi." Think of it as a new, mind blowing experience.

You are really missing something wonderful.

19. Not judging by the average age of the opera audience in DC
They were well into adulthood when the sixties rolled around. Lotta white hair in those Kennedy Center audiences.

I was a good kid who went to music camp and saw a lot of that kind of stuff going on. Of course, this was during the 70s.

26. Cannabis users are generally more cultured than beer drinkers
It just doesn't look that way, because most of the 'stoners' around you do it discreetly.

It's only the obvious 'freak-flag-flyers' that get the attention.
