I'm just spitballing here... what if Saddam's trial drags on...

And the Iraqi government falls...

And some Ba'athists spring him from jail...

And he leads a successful guerrilla war against the Shi'ite government...

And returns to power...

...and that this was his plan all along?

1. I would never underestimate Saddam. He didn't remain in

power as long as he did without being a tough cookie to get rid of. I'm sure he's calculating all his options as I type this.

3. I was thinking along those lines too. First of all,

how the he** can they continue a trial when the city is under siege and all those involved are constantly targeted for elimination? This is just insane.

Secondly, this acquiesence from the judge is certainly strange and indicateds something strange going on with the trial. There must be a significant number of Sunni at this point who would look to Saddam as their best hope of regaining some political traction.
