FEINGOLD calls on President to stop using “ISLAMIC FASCISTS”
http://feingold.senate.gov/~feingold/releases/06/09/20060912.html

“I call on the President to stop using the phrase “Islamic fascists”, a label that doesn’t make any sense, and certainly doesn’t help our effort to build a coalition of societies to fight terrorism,” Feingold said. “The President has often correctly referred to Islam as a religion of peace, but this reckless language, much like his prior reference to the fight against al Qaeda as a ‘crusade,’ completely cuts the other way. Fascist ideology doesn’t have anything to do with the way global terrorist networks think or operate, and it doesn’t have anything to do with the overwhelming majority of Muslims around the world who practice the peaceful teachings of Islam.”

During his remarks, Feingold also addressed national security issues, highlighting the need to refocus our attention on al Qaeda and other terrorist networks instead of getting bogged down in Iraq, which had no connection to the 9/11 attacks. He also discussed how we can protect the rights and freedoms of law-abiding Americans as we fight terrorism.

1. But "Christo-fascist" is a label that makes perfect sense.
Because that is what he is.

3. as I told a freeper once
Islamo-fascism isnt' even a real word.

Perhaps the reason we are losing the "war on terror" is becuase republicans are so busy making up words to fight that they don't have the interest to go after actual threats.

4. Have to to win hearts and minds.... sad but true.
This Talking Point doesn't help that effort one bit. It's amazing how many folks think Islam is what OBL portrays it as... That ain't Islam. That's cultish following of a twisted form of sadism, not fascism.

Fascism = national socialism.

8. NOT!!!
"Fascism = national socialism"
This is true ONLY in the sense that the German NAZI incorrectly called themselves "National Socialists" (like the Fundys call themselves "Christians" or bush* calles his movement "Compassionate Conservatism". Fascism is the direct OPPOSITE of Socialism.

The Godfather of Fascism is Benito Mussolini:

Fascism became an organized political movement following a meeting in Milan on March 23, 1919 (Mussolini founded the Fasci di Combattimento on February 23, however). After failing in the 1919 elections, Mussolini at last entered parliament in 1921. The Fascisti formed armed squads of war veterans called squadristi to terrorize anarchists, socialists and communists.

"Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini

Fascism is the enemy of Socialism. It is an authoritarian Police State run by Corporate CEO's for the benefit of the CEOs.

7. the use is intentional
but Feingold is right, it makes no sense. even when speaking of Islamic extremism i don't see how it can be viewed as Fascist. why not just "radical, extremist, or fundamentalist" Islam ?
