Consumer confidence skyrockets
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060915/ap_on_bi_ge/ipsos_consumer_confidence_1

WASHINGTON - Consumer confidence zoomed to a seven-month high as lower gasoline prices made people feel a lot better about the current economic climate and their own financial standing. The RBC Cash Index, based on the results of the international polling firm Ipsos, showed confidence rebounding to 93.7 in early September.

That marked an improvement from August, when consumer confidence sank to a three-month low of 74.8. At that time, the toll of soaring energy prices was blamed for weighing on consumers' psyches. The recent drop in energy prices, however, provided people with some relief and propelled confidence to its best reading since February.

"The drop in pump prices is very visible to consumers and seems to have a huge impact," said Lynn Reaser, chief economist at Bank of America's Investment Strategies Group. "Consumers seem to view gasoline prices as a barometer to their overall well being."

After surging past $3 a gallon in many areas, gasoline prices are now hovering around $2.62 a gallon nationwide, the Energy Department says.

1. Consumer confidence 'skyrockets'??? I don't think so. Not that
many people out there are stupid enough not to understand that after November gas will cost around $4.00 a gallon (if we're lucky).

Plus all the recent job layoffs and coming lay offs? Please, give me a f**king break.

2. I Feel Soooooo Much Better These Days
Just knowing the economy is Recovering from the Recession which never really existed, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I knew there was nothing to worry about, and am glad that articles like this can confirm that.

:sarcasm:

4. More doctored reports, no doubt.
We're keeping two sets of books, one with the real numbers in it, and the other with doctored numbers that make things seem better than they are.

Just wait, this will be revised in a few months, not quite as good as first announced. By then, it's hoped that no one will care.

Cookin' the books is illegal, just ask Enron. So why is our government being allowed to do it?

5. Yep, just drop the price $.40 and the sheeple are happy to trust their
masters again.

Do you think they'll ever figure out that this
inevitably ends up as this?

7. Pavlovian Electorate?
---- Jesus,.. but this is getting eerie. Gas prices dropped twice in the week here, first from 2.49 to 2.37,... and then today down to 2.28. Most folks seem to recognize that it is highly irregular,... but at this rate, I'll wait 'til Tuesday to fill up. Who knows? ---- Still, however, for anyone to have their "confidence level" heightened as a result of the price decreases is simply being naive. If anything, it should cause a little worry about the goddamned oil companies being able to do this just in order to influence elections.

8. ask the Ford workers how confident they feel
there's something that always amazed me. How do 20,000 people get laid off, Intel, 4000 at Radio shack, and who knows how many others, then the labor office says 15,000 jobs were created, causing unemployment to remain at 4.2%? Seriously, this is a wtf moment for me.
