1. Took me a second-
the red white and blue fooled my aging eyes.

May they rest in peace.

3. I was hoping the last Union Jack-draped coffin I'd have to see
Was the one they cremated my old grandad in :(

4. "Gimme a country that's red white and blue
Gimme the British way honest and true
Gimme the chance to be one of the few
Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme

Gimme a nation where people are free
Free to do and free to be
Free to screw you before you screw me
Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme"

Fly the flag, indeed.

2. Wooden caskets.
Those aren't reuseable.

That's probably the only bright spot in the whole mess; that they aren't using the 'personnel transfer tubes' which can be reused with a quick wash and steaming.

7. The death benefit pays for a decent casket of the family's choice
There's enough for something fairly fancy if that is what is wanted. And if someone wanted to waste their SGLI payment (aka life insurance) on the funeral, they could go all-out. It won't bring the dead back, though.

It is the shipping that is done in the aluminum transfer tube. The body is placed in a body bag, zipped up, and the personal effects (uniform, if available, e.g.) are put in a shrinkwrap bag. The body isn't prepared, with some exceptions of a preservation nature, until it gets to Dover.
