KS Dem takes lead over incumbent 43% - 41% - Thank you Howard Dean!

I got an e-mail today from Nancy Boyda (D) who is running against Jim Ryun (R) in the Kansas 2nd CD. Nancy is ahead in the polling! She ran in 2004 but didn't win. Ryun's last minute commerical blitz in 2004 hightlighted Nancy's trip to D.C. for an anti-war protest. This time he can't use that card against her nor does he have much standing to criticize her message: Nothing will change until we change Congress

We might have two Democrats in Congress from Kansas this fall! :woohoo:

Thanks to Howard Dean and his 50 state strategy, Kansas is going blue!

Eight weeks before the election, our internal polling shows us two points ahead of Jim Ryun.

We just finished a press conference to announce these results to the media. Our poll (which was conducted by Infomark Research, a well-respected outside firm) asked nearly 500 likely voters in the Kansas Second District whom they would vote for if the election were held today.

Forty-one percent said my opponent. Forty-three percent said Nancy Boyda.

This is tremendous, exciting, gratifying news, and we've only achieved this incredible result through your ongoing support. But we must not stop now.

With eight weeks until the election, anything can happen.... and you can be certain that my opponent is rallying his supporters -- Big Business, billion-dollar lobbyists, and far-right-wing PACs -- to launch an expensive and harshly negative attack against us.

6. Her campaign is grassroots squared

and with Dean's 50 state strategy going strong in Kansas there's a good chance she can win this time. There is definitely more Boyda support out there this time around and I credit Dean. Dean has us out every weekend canvassing and people are responding. Kansas is a grassroots state and Nancy is capitalizing on it.

From what I understand Nan is doing a lot better in the red parts of the state. What I mean by "doing a lot better" is that in 2004 there were some areas that were locked for Ryun and there were problems finding people who would work for her in those areas. This time, there are signs and fundraisers by people who wouldn't give her the time of day in 2004. The difference has been the canvassing. Whenever I go by someone's house I ask them if they would like signs in their yards, if they'd like to hold a fundraiser, work the HQ, sign up for an absentee ballot, etc. and people respond. Not only that but they actually get excited.
