David Gregory question
is it a setup?

* kept saying how if Congress doesn't send him a law clearing up Geneva article 3 then the 'program' WON'T go forward.

In order for * to be off the hook if there is another attack, then he has to be able to blame it on obstruction in congress, right?

It seems like he's not going to get his torture law the way he wants it, so I guess dems are to blame if anything happens.

1. What does David Gregory have to do with your question?
I thought dimson was disrespectful and never answered any question honestly today. The blivet's premise is to follow him into the hellhole he's selected. I think we have a problem.

3. DG asked the KEY torture question; it was well-constructed, too NT

5. and it asked * to put himself in
someone else's shoes, something 'dimson' as you say is clearly not likely to do.

6. It's just the whole
if Congress doesn't act, than the program won't go forward thing. Since when has he cared what Congress thought about anything he's done?

Personally, I find the whole change of tune astonishing and a bit unnerving.

8. His stalwart supporters-McCain, Powell, Graham- are going against
him. It's unnerving because we've never seen them act this way before. These men know how serious this is, finally, and are fighting this agenda. Like I said, we have a major American problem that only a few can 'fix'. The right steps are being taken imho.

2. Hell, no. DG is no tool. Monkey seemed to be using the question
to THREATEN America and the GOP, though. But DG wasn't playing straight man to Monkey's Henny Youngman.

If by a setup, you mean that Monkey constructed his response so that he could toss the blame on Congress, and by extension, the mean old American people who can't get behind torture as a tool, sure. I agree with that take on the matter.

He was pretty damn strident, wasn't he! Maybe he feels the hot breath of international law on his neck???

4. It' just that to me
this whole response of his came from the blue.

I must be working too hard these days, but I didn't realize the WH was feeling so much heat on this thing.

7. I think he was waiting for any question to brush up against his
already-prepared response. All the questioner had to do was bring up Geneva and he was off to the races. It didn't matter if the question didn't quite fit the idea he had in his head, he was determined to make his point, and not let details bog him down. He even dismissed DG when DG tried to press him on the key issue, that's how determined he was to spit out that bullying 'my way or the highway" threat/promise:

The hypothetical question Bush can't answer
At a Rose Garden press conference this morning, NBC's David Gregory asked George W. Bush the obvious hypothetical question: How would he feel if a foreign government like, say, North Korea's or Iran's, captured a U.S. soldier or CIA officer, subjected him to torture, then tried and convicted him with evidence he wasn't allowed to see?

Bush didn't -- Bush couldn't -- answer the question.

"My reaction is that, if the nations such as those you named adopted the standards within the Detainee Detention Act, the world would be better," he said.

Gregory pressed on what he called the "important point," the same point Colin Powell made this week in his letter opposing Bush's plan. "I know you think it's an important point," Bush snapped back. But he said "the most important point" was the rather unlikely one he was making -- that U.S. intelligence officers will have to stop interrogating detainees entirely if they don't have more clarity on the outer limits of the coercive techniques they can use.

Gregory pressed one more time, at which point Bush cut him off and said "next man."

11. Pre-prepared response is right on.
Bush sounded like a broken record enunciating his talking points throught the press conference.

David Gregory asked a question and unlike most of the hacks in the WHPC had the balls to back it up which made Chimp repeat his talking points louder and more stridently.

I guess that's the secret to his success. Catapult the propeganda so to speak.
