3. The part about Gen. Butler, the Liberty League,
Edited on Sat Sep-16-06 04:23 AM by pnorman
the McCormack Committee, and the INTENT, to stage a "coup" against the FDR Presidency, is fairly well established. I invite all to spend an hour or so Googling it. You'll be AMAZED. But the connection between the Bush family (ie: Prescott Bush) rests on much shakier ground. Trying to "force" it would only serve to discredit the basis of the main conspiracy. Think carefully before "buying" that story. It's along the lines of the Vince Foster "story".

The book mentioned in that videoclip ("Maverick General") is available, but I haven't yet seen it. But I once had the other book but had since lost it. It's well nigh unavailable now at any price, but I managed to locate a page by page scan of it on the web. Here it is: http://www.chris-floyd.com/plot/The_Plot_to_Sieze_the_White_House_by_Jules_Archer/. One of these days, I'll D/L each page and save them all on my HD, before it disappears entirely. Read it. It's well researched and quite compelling.

On edit: Here's what looks to be a good summary from that web-page: http://www.chris-floyd.com/plot/
On further edit: I took my own advice, and got this Daily Kos Google "hit": http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/2/27/112936/440 (I may be up all night on this. HELP!)

4. good point but also the Germany Nazi connections
to Prescott are very clear. Remember that the Remington rifles that the Brownshirts marched with in Germany in 1933, were shipped to Germany by the Walker side of the family. Prescotts Harriman Bros shipping steel to Germany, Union bank. Etc. Prescott has enough criminal activity that has been well documented, that I'm don't worry about making a direct connection from Prescott to Butler.

And yes, there were a few folks... Buckeye steel... in the Bush Walker clan that weren't willing to do all that nasty shit that the others deemed so necessary.

But, If you are not familiar with the topic, it will blow you away.

7. I'm reasonably "familiar" with that topic,
Edited on Sat Sep-16-06 05:12 AM by pnorman
having seen it discussed repeatedly on DU and other venues. I'm NOT disputing it out of hand. But I AM saying that the primary "conspiracy" (Liberty League and the rest) is FAR more compelling --- and by at least an order of magnitude. And it's FAR more relevant to present events.

Except among "true believers" the case against Prescott Bush would be inconclusive at best --- even more so with Little Lord Pissypants. But I can (and have) discussed the main "conspiracy theory" in a very sceptical venue --- and with considerable success.

On edit: SHIT!!! I'll be up all night on this topic, and so will my pal Google! (But this is what I live for!)

9. And thats probably why they never mentioned Prescott in the documentary..
Spending a weeks vacation in Maine with the wrong people does not a conspiracy connection make. Plus records, papers and stuff just tend to vanish.... LOL...

18. It should also be noted that the Liberty League.....
which opposed FDR's policies, was bipartisan.

21. "Bipartisan" to the extent that a few members like Al Smith were
formerly prominent Democrats. But they were more like embittered office-seekers who had been sidelined by the course of events. And when rationalizing their defection, they did a lot of rewriting of history. We have the same thing nowadays with Zell Miller (and perhaps Joe Lieberman).

13. Many thanks for posting the link to the Archer book...
Original copies are going on Amazon for $400. It is rumored that the families mentioned in the book (DuPont et al) have been buying them up in recent years, as well as swiping them from public libraries.

I guess I didn't Google far enough, but my first find seemed adequate for the purpose. But yours will be so much easier to download! I'll get on it later tonight, and then stuff it in my PDA (Sony TH-55).

22. I almost forgot.
History Channel has a video available, "In Search of History: The Plot To Overthrow FDR": http://store.aetv.com/html/product/index.jhtml?id=73631&browseCategoryId=&location=&parentcatid=&subcatid=

I have the DVD and highly recommend it. There are a few "dramatic recreations", which are clearly identified as such, but the real footage and narration makes a very compelling case.

5. Excellent documentary...
anyone who doubts that a fascist conspiracy consisting of wealthy industrialists could exist within the U.S. should watch this. It's important to note that Smedley Butler turned out to be a whistleblowing pro-democracy patriot. In a speech he noted that all we need is suffrage, free speech and a free press in order to preserve democracy.

6. And if you haven't read Smedley Butler's "War is a Racket" do so now
WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives.

A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small "inside" group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes.

In the World War a mere handful garnered the profits of the conflict. At least 21,000 new millionaires and billionaires were made in the United States during the World War. That many admitted their huge blood gains in their income tax returns. How many other war millionaires falsified their tax returns no one knows.

How many of these war millionaires shouldered a rifle? How many of them dug a trench? How many of them knew what it meant to go hungry in a rat-infested dug-out? How many of them spent sleepless, frightened nights, ducking shells and shrapnel and machine gun bullets? How many of them parried a bayonet thrust of an enemy? How many of them were wounded or killed in battle?

Out of war nations acquire additional territory, if they are victorious. They just take it. This newly acquired territory promptly is exploited by the few – the selfsame few who wrung dollars out of blood in the war. The general public shoulders the bill.

And what is this bill?

This bill renders a horrible accounting. Newly placed gravestones. Mangled bodies. Shattered minds. Broken hearts and homes. Economic instability. Depression and all its attendant miseries. Back-breaking taxation for generations and generations.

23. Nothing to do with the GOP that time
They pick the party that will give them the most leverage. At the time, it was the Democratic Party.

http://www.answers.com/topic/john-j-raskob

John J. Raskob

John Jakob Raskob (1879-1950) was a financial executive and businessman for DuPont, General Motors, and the builder of the Empire State Building. Outside of his business life, he became chairman of the Democratic National Committee and was key supporter of Alfred E. Smith's candidacy for President of the United States. After Franklin D. Roosevelt became President, Raskob became a prominent opponent of the New Deal through his support of a number of anti-Roosevelt organization including the American Liberty League. Raskob was also a leader in the Association Against the Prohibition Amendment.

Raskob was also the Treasurer of the Knights of Malta in the US. The plot was a conspiracy conceived by the Knights of Malta to take control of the US Government.

At about the same time, another Knight of Malta, Fritz Von Papen convinced Hindenburg to appoint Hitler as Chancellor of Germany.

It doesn't take much imagination to overlay this plot with the New World Order schemes of Bush Gang.

28. They might have liked the DLC.
The History Channel's presentation mentions "Former Democrat", the traction not being what they might have hoped.

I guess the best we could call them is a "far right-wing element."

The fascist's true home now in America is the Republican Party.

Thank you for the clarifications, formercia!

26. So important to know about!
This is one of the most comprehensively important threads I've ever read. Everything we hate about what has been done to our country goes back to this.

What General Smedley said about needing only suffrage, freedom of speech, and freedom of the press to preserve democracy distills our problem to its essence. These are the PRECIOUS RIGHTS that those we now call the neocons, modern-day GOP, and BushCo (among other things) have been attacking persistently and systematically. It is not "the terrorists" who "hate our freedoms" it is the ENEMY WITHIN who hate them and have been busily stripping them away piece by piece!

(1) They've been suppressing or stealing our suffrage (voting rights) by whatever means possible, and they're getting more and more blatant about it.

(2) They've been attacking freedom of speech and association at every turn, and the NSA spying programs exist only to expand this outrage; again, they're getting more and more blatant about it.

(3) They've been monitoring, intimidating, and suppressing the media for some time, and have been finally simply buying/consolidating "the press" (media) under limited corporate control, with their takeover of the FCC to ensure success.

They've been at it from the very beginning, I believe, based on things I've read in Zinn. They're so close to achieving their goals in this country that they can taste victory -- but they're terrified that will turn to ashes in their mouths because The People are beginning to wake up and resist.

Someone else already said it, but it bears repeating: Those among us who swore to defend and uphold the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, had better hop to it to prevent this latest overthrow attempt at home.
