In the end, Bush will win again
He will get his "law" stating that was done in the past was legal, but should be discontinued because of its lack of effectiveness. The GOP moderates get a slight victory, and Bush gets to keep his ass.
Then, if Democrats complain, Rove will have the slime machine ready to label them as "internationalists" and generally weak on defense.

The only way Bush will ever be accountable for anything is if the Democrats take control of the house.
That's it.

1. If our cowardly congress passes legislation that basically protects
the bushes from war crime charges, and it is later repealed, couldn't the bushes still be tried for war crimes? It would be a retroactive law they pass and if it is repealed, then the bushes would still be liable because the retroactive law was not in affect when the bushes tortured people.

2. It doesn't matter either way
Passing legislation protecting Bush from war crimes is not going to protect him from being prosecuted.
If he gets prosecuted, part of the war crime would be that there was legislation protecting him.
The legislation would be considered a war crime itself.
Passing legislation doesn't magically make something not a war crime.
War crimes are tried in a court that is not obligated to work within the confines of legislation of this sort.

3. Yay! I like that take on it! After all, they're not letting Saddam say
"Everything I did was LEGAL because I was in charge and I SAID it was legal for me to do."

6. Rubber Stamping ...
Congressional Dems had the opportunity to at least stop rubber stamping the war and corporate welfare legislation that Bush demanded but failed to do so.

Also, since the Dems failed to insure that enough electoral oversight was available in Florida and Ohio elections, this gave away the Congressional majority to Bush and his reich wing henchmen. They certainly had plenty of time to bring about electoral reform in the past 6 years but have chosen not to do so. It's all a matter of choice and, so far, Congressional Dems have made the wrong ones.

8. Confusion as a strategy
This administration has seemingly perfected the art of confusion as a strategy.
How we can even find ourselves at this point - debating the Geneva Convention!! - is just simply astounding to me.
Good vs. Bad. Evil vs. Good. Bad vs. Evil. Keep moving the shells, eventually we get Evil is good.

Many posters have stated this before, but at this point we really have to ask ourselves: Is it all but over for this country, for the U.S.A.?

9. Sit back relax and count to Ten
No,the Reukes will not win the majority in Congress...Bush has made this election national, just what the Repukes did not want.
Take a look at various states and you'll see that Democrats are leading in many polls(more than than the 15 seats we need for the house). All the Democratic Congressional candidates need to do is remember there are other issues beside the war.The Repubs will be defending their President on the Iraq war and the majority of voters want us out of there....
Even in this bright red state of Indiana we are likely to pick up 3 seats...

10. First of all I wouldn't hold my breath
that the Democrats are going to sweep back triumphantly into power in 2006. If we've learned anything from the past 6 years, it's that the Repubs/Neocons know how to steal close elections, and I suspect those that aren't close. Second, even if the Dems make a return to power, their "leadership" have so far not provided an iota of evidence that they will do a fucking thing except, cave, dilly-dally, and try to "appeal to the center". IF (big IF) they get back in, they ought to start listening to Murtha and Feingold.
