Can you help my 2 close friends?
Get this... 2 close friends were born in 1956 -- exactly 50 years ago.

And every month, these friends get together for dinner. One is deeply depressed because loss of his freedoms. But the other friend hates negativity and thinks all is well.

Both approached me with about this conflict and want my thoughts. While I understand (and share) my one friend's concerns, I also agree with my other friend and want to be optimistic.

That's why I'm here. I'd like your help to create a list of the freedoms we've gained and lost during the last 50 years...

... Can you help better prepare me for the next dinner and submit your list here?

1. the most important I thing is desegregation
I am 53, when I was a kid, blacks were walled off from the white society, they could cook the
food in the kitchen in your restaurant but they could not sit out front and be served. There
were separate doors for blacks and whites and separate schools. I think that our realization
that our society really must stand for liberty and justice for all is the most important
freedom we have gained.

4. Time is on our side
it was a blow for a better country and the country is starting to realize that hatred doesn't
pay. We were much better off with someone like FDR than the needy, greedy that we have now.

3. We Live 15 Years Longer
Freedom from the coffin is one of my favorite freedoms!

Life expectancy has steadily increased by 30 years over the last century. Life expectancy in the US was roughly 45 years in 1900, 75 years in 2000. Interpolating, this means it's increased 15 years since your friends were born.

5. Women have more control over planning pregnancies
Let's look at the bright side first:
50 yrs ago women had to be married to get a diaphram in most places. BCPs/OCs were not available.

TV and movies, now can show navels.

Mixed:
50 yrs ago women were being pushed out of jobs by the soldiers returning home after WW2, they were "supposed" to be stay at homes, taking care of family, husband, home. Now they are freer to work outside the home for pay AND take care of family, husband, home.

Negative:
My medical records dental records phone calling patterns library records pone calls can all be monitered and none of those providers can legally tell me.

OH lord too much.
