Even my 11 year old knows
We were eating Chinese food one night this past week. At the end of the meal, we got our fortune cookies with the check.

My fortune read "A liar is not believed even though he tells the truth"

My oldest was puzzled by this - "What does that mean" she asked.

I thought for a second, then I said "If a person lies about something very important, or lies a lot, even when they tell the truth after that, nobody will believe them".

I detected that she needed an example, so I said "who do we know that lied a lot, and now nobody believes him"? Without batting an eye, she said "Bush".

I was the proudest parent in the world at that instant :D

Normally I wouldn't want the kids to be aware of the politics of the time, but the current administrations craven disregard for traditional political decency has forced me to bend the rules on occasion.

2. smart girl- and
as a parent myself, I've come to understand our kids are 'aware' of politics, no matter what we would desire. Given that truth, I believe it is my responsibility to make sure my kids hear both sides of any position, and encourage them to choose thier own stand.

I'm happy to say that they are even more liberal than I am- (and that's saying something). EVEN with honest, well presented 'conservative' counter perspectives.

I'm proud of your daughter too-!
Our children are reason to hope and work for a better tomorrow, today.
