So Cheney's Cooking Up Fake Info On Iran And DU Collectively YAWNS?
Edited on Sat Sep-16-06 07:54 PM by cryingshame
:wtf:

Various news reports came out this week about Cheney etc. cooking fake info about Iran and so far, I've seen almost no threads about getting this info out even further into the Media.

The Office of Special Plans is in business again... and DU is more interested in ????

From McClatchy on the Bush Administration's Iran machinations:

Some officials at the CIA, the Defense Intelligence Agency and the State Department said they're concerned that the offices of Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and Vice President Dick Cheney may be receiving a stream of questionable information that originates with Iranian exiles, including a discredited arms dealer, Manucher Ghorbanifar, who played a role in the 1980s Iran-Contra scandal.
Officials at all three agencies said they suspect that the dubious information may include claims that Iran directed Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group, to kidnap two Israeli soldiers in July; that Iran's nuclear program is moving faster than generally believed; and that the Iranian people are eager to join foreign efforts to overthrow their theocratic rulers.

The officials said there is no reliable intelligence to support any of those assertions and some that contradicts all three.

The officials said they fear a replay of the administration's mishandling of what turned out to be bogus information from Iraqi exiles in the run-up to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, documented earlier this month in a Senate intelligence committee report.

The article also reports that former defense officials have been told airstrike plans for Iran are being updated and that the leader of a Persian Gulf country failed to get the assurances he was seeking, during a recent visit to Washington, that the military option was off the table.

There was also this nugget:

Adding to the unease, Rumsfeld's office earlier this year set up a new Iranian directorate, reported to be under the leadership of neoconservatives who played a role in planning the Iraq war.
Current and former officials said the Pentagon's Iranian directorate has been headed by Abram Shulsky. Shulsky also was the head of the now-defunct Office of Special Plans, whose role in allegedly manipulating Iraq intelligence is under investigation by the Pentagon's inspector general.

Some officials say they fear the office, whose existence was first reported by the Los Angeles Times, is being used to funnel intelligence from Ghorbanifar, the arms dealer, and an Iranian exile group known as the Mujahedeen Khalq.

2. Are you just in the mood to castigate someone?
If you're upset about something Cheney did, post it. I'm sure you'll find sympathetic 'ears' here. But why get pissy at DU just because the board isn't being collectively angry about something fast enough for you?

It's not like there's only a few things to be worried a/o angry about these days.

3. as long as iran
has the ability to sell oil for euros instead of dollars, both parties will denigrate iran with extreme prejudice, who in the democratic party do you see placing his political life on the line to clarify that point of fact.

ron paul, libertarian type, is the only pol to stand on the floor and explain these aggressions for what they are. no hillary, no Mccain, nobody but him that I have seen. he has the oratory skills to hold your interest if you are so inclined. just google him for February 15, 2006.

then ask the real question. why are no democratic representatives sounding the alarm?

only answer I can see is they want to have as much public support as can can be fabricated in case they decide to invade to protect the us dollar.

some here on du will gladly support any action against iran (insert reason given by a democratic Representative polling well in race for 08) because their first loyalties are not to american interests. not all members of this forum are american citizens.

what has iran done that is illegal or a violation of any international treaty they have signed?

while I defend and support the democratic party, until they can come up with a better answer than aipac told us to, no politician will bother to explain these complicated issues, especially if, when the time comes to devote american troops, a simple "they are godless heathens" will suffice without question.

Abram Shulsky wouldn't happen to hold a dual citizenship would he?
