It was the week he came out fighting. Bill Clinton's extraordinary assault on the makers of a dramatised 9/11 documentary which portrayed his administration as failing to prevent the terror attacks, was the most public example of a three-pronged effort - to protect his own presidential legacy, to relaunch himself as a world statesman and to make himself a viable First Gentleman should his wife Hillary achieve her own ambitions on the White House.

The publicity onslaught was launched by Clinton following the screening of the drama-documentary The Path to 9/11, which suggested that he failed to prevent the 11 September terrorist attacks because he was distracted by the Monica Lewinsky affair. The programme's timing could not have been worse for Clinton, coming just as he is trying to rebuild his reputation as a world statesman and while his wife is trying to gather support as the next Democratic presidential candidate ...



...Bob Muholland, a Democrat party activist and an old friend of Clinton's, agreed: 'It needed to be rebutted. You have to, otherwise people might start believing that rubbish. Bill Clinton has to speak out every day on this issue. For average people it is obvious that Bush is responsible for the failures leading up to 9/11.'

As soon as he gets the ABC controversy stamped on, Clinton will be straight back on the comeback trail to power, his supporters insist. 'Clinton does not need a Karl Rove. He is the best political analyst in the country.' said Mulholland. And those supporters are as eager as Clinton to reshape his legacy. 'Most Americans and most Brits would agree that looking at the world situation right now, they would prefer to have Bill Clinton as president again - or Bill Clinton running the United Nations,' he added.

It was fabulous - and I love the message he's getting out there - that Democrats THINK, while Repukes ATTACK. Democrats have a philsophy and study the evidence to make decisions, while pukes have an ideology and discard evidence because they think they already know all the answers.

Other reasonable people will know what a crock this is.

I didn't at all get a feeling that Clinton was furious or angry or upset. On tv he simply smiled and said, "I think we owe the families of the victims the truth." This led me to believe that there will be legal action taken, and ABC will rue the day...

Cromwell and Caesar. Call him either one and you were tempting the man's volcanic wrath. I used to think it was really ironic that Australia's conservative party was named the Liberal Party. But that's only slightly ironic compared to Bush's faction being named Republicans. One contributing reason I don't want Senator Clinton nominated is the insult it would be to our 230 years of steady republicanism.

16. that is exactly what i wondered too,

especially after the clintons themselves once said that the bushes had asked them not to run in 1992, that if they did not run in 1992, the bushes (meaning ole POPPY) promised to give them a free run. they said they wondered at the time what that meant. (they didn't have to wait long to find out, and neither did we) and now after all that, old man bush and clinton are friends?! and now, he is planning a come back, a UN comeback? something gives somewhere. the bushes tend to taint anything they touch--and whether clinton is free from bush taint or not, he is bush tainted in the eyes of very many.

It infuriates my husband for Clinton and Bush Sr. to be seen together so much; and it doesn't make me too happy either. As low as Bush is in the polls and all the trouble he's into, it doesn't make sense for them to be cozying up to him. I sure hope they haven't made a deal with the Bushes. :spank: :shrug:

6. Of course Clinton would never ACTUALLY get elected to UN chief

He's known as a hard nosed proponent of American interests and was a bit of a hawk on Iraqi sanctions. We forget that now, because the Iraq issue ended up being handled by people who were batshit insane. But Clinton choked Iraq's recovery and medical supplies (for fear they'd be turned into chemical weapons) and hit Iraq with missiles on at least two occasions. That's about as hard assed militant as you can get with Iraq without being a fucking re-tard.

The Russians and Chinese would nuke his nomination as Secretary General in a second. And they'd be doing him a favor since (1) his election would end Senator Clinton's chances (which I assume he supports) to become president and (2) it would be a pretty big demotion.
