When I read the WaPo article this morning about the Pentagon instituting a 'loyalty to George Bush' test when it came to awarding opportunities to participate in the rebuilding of Iraq (asking people such questions as their views on Roe V. Wade and whether they voted for Bush in 2000), it reminded me of the investigation into HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson.
Earlier this year, HUD's Inspector General said they would investigate HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson after his April 28 speech to Dallas businessgroup.
During that speech, he said he rescinded a contarct that had been awarded to a minority businessman, after the businessman expressed anti-Bush sentiments. Jackson told the group "He didn't get the contract. Why should I reward someone who doesn't like the president, so they can use funds to try to campaign against the president? Logic says they don't get the contract. That's the way I believe."
Of course, it is a violation of federal law to award, deny or rescind a contract on the basis of the bidder's political affiliation.
Anyways, the WaPo article reminded me of the Alphonso Jackson incident, and I was wondering if anyone has heard about the status of it.
Even more, I think everyone should write their elected officials in the House and Senate, and demand that they conduct a thorough investigation into BushCo's awarding of contracts to his political cronies.
