I love this fundy attitude:

Still, some Southern women remain stalwart supporters of the president and the Republican Party. At a watermelon festival in Chickamauga, in the mountains of northwest Georgia, substitute teacher Clydeen Tomanio said she remains committed to the party she's called home for 43 years.

"There are some people, and I'm one of them, that believe George Bush was placed where he is by the Lord," Tomanio said. "I don't care how he governs, I will support him. I'm a Republican through and through."

Hmmm. She's from Georgia and she's been a Republican for 43 years. That would be 1963. right around when Democrats became the civil rights party. Just speculating.

Rob the treasury? Sure, as long as it's bush* doing the robbing!

Tap your phone? Sure, as long as it's bush* doing the listening!

Eat cake while people are drowning in NO? Sure, as long as bush* enjoyed his cake!

...I could go on...and on....and on...

This really does explain a lot about how our country got into the shape we're in :(

30. her thinking even 'fundie' wise is flawed-
I know she's thinking of the bible verse that states that god puts the rulers in place, and that 'we' are to obey them for that reason,

BUT

(wish I understood how to make words big, because this is a big BUT)

There was no such thing as leader elected by the governed when the old testament OR the new testament were written.

AND if 'god' wanted us to just accept whatever 'leaders' do, then would that also not have applied to Hitler??

And, if everything that happens is REALLY god's will, then he wanted 9/11 to happen- and he wants Iraq to happen, and he is a liar and a hypocrite.

Not to mention the countless 'fundies' who did NOT obey, support or respect Clinton when he was President, quite the opposite.
Smorgasboard scripture- only if it 'feels good' and 'fits our agenda'-

:puke:

36. The Bible stuff is BS, I think Jesus came to show the religious
leaders that it is bull. He was a leader of a small band of good people, but he was not born a king nor escalated to anywhere near a "leader" determined by man during his LIFEtime.

One has to look at the New Testament (Gospels) to see that Jesus refuted so much of the Old Testament, that he was crucified. Man, always tries to define the un-definable, GOD!

43. can't say
that I agree completely, but we agree more than we disagree on this.

And I agree, - humans always want to have things 'just so'- much of life does not fit into that box- and while 'humans' may be 'intelligent' (sometimes I honestly wonder)- we do not, and will not ever understand all that there is to know in this world-

peace,
blu

32. The Man on the White Horse
Edited on Sun Sep-17-06 04:56 PM by rwenos
Take another scan of Revelation lately? Little old southern ladies want a Great White Father to come along, with the Answer. The world they grew up in was shattered by the Civil Rights Movement. Their hatred of the Democratic Party for that insult is visceral, historic and unending. The Democratic Party became, in the 1960's, the Devil who shattered their icon, the old Jim Crow apartheid system.

Is there any wonder they think Georgie, with his liberal use of scripture, is the Man on the White Horse?

More like the pale rider: "Behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him."

All I can say to that lady is "beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves."

42. The main problem is that people undstand the world through thier concepts.
The fundies conceive of the world in a totally different way then we do. The average Westerner understands the world in an an empircal fashion (meaning that reality is rational and can be studied objectively). The Fundies understand the world in a dogmatic fasion, that is they think that if what they see contradicts what they are taught they blame some evil force perverting thier senses rather then reject what they have been taught.
