Went to say goodbye to Ann Richards today (dialup warning)

Wanted to share some photos. Went to Austin to pay our last respects. Ann was truly unique and any of us who met her were the better for the experience.




Really touching to see the flags at half mast.



There was a line, but went along well. Some people were stepping aside before going in to talk a couple of women with a camera, sharing their feelings.





Many were stopping by her portrait too.



Were there when the guards changed, very moving, lots of tears. Reminded me of Arlington and the Tomb of the Unknowns.


Spoke with someone inside named Dieter who was putting something together for the family. Talked about the few times we had met her (link is to a story posted earlier). Also talked about what we felt would be her legacy, opening up opportunities for others and her giving nature. Was really a nice atmosphere and was able to speak to others as well.

8. Hoped they would mean something to others too

As you could see in the other pics, they had photo displays on both sides. Like this one in particular, with Annie holding up a t-shirt that says "A woman's place is in the dome." As usual, she said it better than any of us could hope to.
