I'm trying to find an article on this but everything seems too outdated to get access to. I would think that somewhere there is a count of this, though. Also I use Congressmen as a general term, members of the US House and US Senate.

I was incorrect, and deleted this to not spread incorrect info.

Sorry to anyone relying on it.

McCain's son just joined up, and there are a few more than I thought after reading some additional articles a few minutes ago.

3. Baucus's nephew died in Iraq. Johnson(SD) 's son was deployed in Iraq at
some point.

That is all I know.

4. Would he be sent, given his father's name recognition?
At some point don't they keep them from going for security reasons?

6. Don't know.
That's a two edged sword. Either he could stay safe in a cushy Pentagon gig given who his father is, or he could feel pressure to outdo him. Fathers and sons ya know.

mysteriously pulled and reassigned to supply Officcer in Japan.

on edit:
Former Republican Congressman Paul "Pete" McCloskey, Jr., who served with Robertson in Korea, claimed that Robertson was actually spared combat duty when his powerful father, a U.S. Senator, intervened on his behalf, claiming that instead Robertson spent most of his time in an office in Japan. According to McCloskey, his time in the service was not in combat but as the "liquor officer" responsible for keeping the officers' clubs supplied with liquor.

17. FWIW, McCain's father was Commander of the US Pacific Fleet when his plane
was shot down in 1967.

5. I think about six
Quite a far cry from WWII (you know, the war that neo-cons like to always compare this to), or even Vietnam.

7. Not currently in Congress, but
Jim Webb's son, Jimmy, was just sent to Iraq.

Jim Webb is running against Senator George Allen from Virginia. They were on Meet the Press this morning.

(That sounds funny, Jim Webb is from Virginia; he has roots here. George Allen is a carpetbagger from California. They are both running for the Virginia Senate seat.)

10. You do realize
that 7 of 535 (1.3%) represents a higher percentage of service than that of the population as a whole (approximately .5%).

is NOT responsible for sending OTHER people's children to war so they can die for no reason!

15. Neither are the children
Of currently serving politicians. I don't see that they should be forced to pay for the sins of their parents.

16. Congress is only responding to the will of the people
It's the people who want their sons and daughters to come home with tramatic brain injuries or as a parapalegic or under the cloud of having committed atrocities...

Thank God/Bush I have Leaders who can show me the way and lead me to the abbotior!

13. "The population as a whole"
makes for nice comparisons. Many in that "population as a whole" do not have children old enough to serve, do not have children at all or ARE children themselves , whereas most all the elected officials have children old enough, at least those officials too old to serve themselves.
