So what becomes of the torturer?
Bush & CO want to allow Americans in the military and intelligence to be allowed to use torture to interrogate prisoners. There are many reasons that have been discussed has to why this a very bad idea, but the one that is overlooked is what does this do to the torturer. What happens to these men and women who are trained in these techniques and get use to using them? What becomes of their souls? Are they able to separate their jobs from their personal lives? When they go home how does this training effect the way they treat their wives/husbands, children and others?

The torturer gets accustomed to have great power over other humans. Instead of restraining themselves, they can react with violence for even the smallest excuse. Humans can be very cruel and in an environment where cruelty knows no bounds, we quickly lose our humanity.

So to anyone who thinks that sometimes you have no choice, or that if this is what it takes it's okay, think about the monsters we are creating. Think about our own people who will be destroyed in the process and their families and their countrymen.

1. The outcome for torturers depends on if they win.
If they don't win they'll get hung up as criminals.
If they win, their type get hung following the revolution.

2. from what I understand
This topic is a big to do over what is going on with this torture stuff. In other words B*sh is supposed to be trying to clarify what the laws are in order to keep the personel in line with the law. Actually you're talking the soul of that person. Hmmm, don't know about that. Does anyone have specifics on what types of torture they are doing. The supposed "legal" kind. I've seen lots of mocking basically stating that they're not talking about beating people up like in a Rambo movie, but using other types like denying sleep, loud music, and other types like that. I'd like to see a list of showing what is supposed to be allowed and not.

3. Sleep deprivation and water boarding are the two big ones I have heard
Enduring long periods without any clothes in solitary confinement and others.

What ever type of human degradation they are doing, it is just wrong.
If America resorts to torture then the terrorist have one yet again, they will have brought the high standards that made America great down to their level.
As for those who do the torture, they have either already given up their soul or the moment they subject a fellow human being to such acts, they will lose it.

This is a very dark and sad time for America and humanity.

5. I hope I am free to say this
but the terrorist cut the limbs off our soldiers and drag them through the street or video tape them beheading our service people or worse a contractor. I don't think they are ever going to reciprocate our "kinder and gentler" type of torture. Bring 'em home.

7. What would you do
if someone invaded your country and bombed your homes, killed your families and raped your wives?

9. Torture isn't about what the "bad guys" have done. It's about who YOU are
Once you sink to the level of those who dismember and behead, well, any fights between you are simply gangland-type struggles.

It's only a question of which thug is stronger and has more resources at their disposal.

Forget "freedom" or "justice" or anything resembling them.

10. Lower your self to their standards?
What makes America better than these people is the fact that we have standards and treat human beings as such.

How can you justify torturing another human being? MY GOD!

4. It's probably not as bleak as you make it sounds. See the
Milgram Experiment for more details http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment . After all, as long as its for a good cause, and they're just doing to to "them" of a different skin color/religious belief/political party, then our brave boys should have no problems adjusting to civilian life. Support The Troops! God Bless the United States! America Uber Alles!

6. I've spent too many hours
listening to friends who went through the horror of Vietnam to know that once you've been to war, you will never be the same. Most of these vets have lived a life of pain and nightmares has a result. Now we're doing the same thing all over again to another generation. When will we ever learn?

8. Torture?
It amazes me. Some of the folks who say we should reason with the folks advocating torture now want us to behave the same as the terrorists. If we liberals/progressives can't behave the same as the right-wing {politically} why should we behave the same as the terrorists? We should torture people to death because terrorists do? I thought America was better than that. Oh wait, there's that little matter of genocide of Native Americans. Slavery, lynching, jim crow laws. My bad.:sarcasm:

11. Study the Milgram Experiments and the Stanford Jail Study.
Virtually anyone will perform torture and abuse of prisoners. Anyone.
