Things could get ugly in November.
I'm trying to think ahead, like everyone else, but without making predictions. I'm really worried about the national mood, and how it may go seriously southward no matter who wins this election, or the one in 08.

Things are volatile, unstable, teetering on the brink, the nation is polarized and on edge and no wonder.

I'm trying to second guess these assholes, worrying about fraud, diebold, lies, tricks, stunts, and terror attacks. They are desperate to hold onto power and they are known to go to extremes to get their way.

Things could get ugly.

18. Good word for it.
I do not think Bush is really to normal and wanting his own way has become a thing with him.

3. Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country.
If another election is stolen and things don't get ugly, the Republic is dead.

6. Republican Hope - bad news
If the Republicans believe they can win by fighting dirty, they will fight as dirty as possible. If they conclude they are likely to lose anyway, they will presumably pull back, knowing they are going to have to work with us after the election.

7. So you remember when Dems and Repubs were similar...
I'm thinking back about ten years, when alot of people were saying there wasn't any difference between Republicans and Democrats. The political pundits back then were saying the two parties were hard to tell apart, that Democrats were acting like Republicans. Now they're complaining about the "polarization" of the country. At one time, it was thought that Republicans were winning races because the Democratic party had become "too liberal". (This was back in the 80's). Why isn't anybody talking about the Republicans being "too conservative" now?

9. You bet. And we can't even have another Civil War...
No line divisions. We are so interspersed.

If there is another manipulation of the votes, I can easily picture a march on Washington.

10. I kinda wish that were likely.
Sadly, I don't. This is a nation that didn't bury SCOTUS in millions of angy, protesting bodies in December 2000. This is a nation that's gone over three years under an administration that's provably committed crimes against peace and war crimes. The chances that people will confront yet another crime against their democracy are slim. Bread and circuses.

Anything laying down. It's just too much trouble to do anything. They might miss American Idol.

14. December 2000 was the first coup in the United States...
9/11 and the anthrax attacks just sealed the deal. That is my firm belief.

15. No, they won't.
The Democrats will get the most votes, but the Republicans will steal the elections. The fearless Democratic leadership will smile weakly, and mutter, "Go along to get along". There will be a lot af angst expressed here on DU, and other blogs, but there will be none of the excitement and energy that our Mexican friends have brought to their disputed election. After a week or two, things will settle down into the same relentless bitch and moan that we've wseen for the last 6 years.

Orrrr.... We could take this opportunity to pressure our representatives, to be at the polls gathering the evidence of wrong doing. Have it ready to present to the appropriate authorities within hours, along with our sworn testimony. To take to the streets with massive protests. To file lawsuits on our own behalf if the authorities refuse to act.

I don't know which way it will go, there is a lot of anger out there. But here's an opportunity to turn the country around, but it's also an opportunity to fail. Are we winners, or losers?

17. There's plenty of time for things to go bad for us in November.

And we could cause it too.

Two examples,...

Rosie Os comment that radical Christians are as dangerous as radical Muslims. Sure, I know what she meant (i.e., Christian Identity wackos), but that energizes the republican moderates and makes moderate democrats shake their heads.

Gun control, particularly banning specific guns, could still kick us in the nuts. There have been some high profile tragic incidents and I've just been cringing waiting for our usual folks who want to make their local gun bans federal to speak up. So far nothing.
