Allen Rationalizes Questionably Racist Decisions With Questionable Logic
Click here to read how Sen. George Allen (R-Macaca) explained to NBC's Tim Russert why he was no longer the man who in earlier years had made questionably racist decisions.

<snip>

ALLEN: On the Confederate flag — look, I wish I had had these experiences earlier in life, because I would have made decisions differently. The Confederate flag — as, as a kid, I was rebellious, anti-establishment, I still am. And I looked at the flag as a symbol for that.

RUSSERT: But you were governor.

Only Allen knows the truth about Allen. But his lame excuses, which began with his explaining away "macaca" last month, only continued today on Meet The Press. Whether it costs Allen a chance to retain his Senate seat this November -- and a chance at the presidency in 2008 -- remains to be seen.

1. I laughed so hard when Russert said that!
Allen didn't respond to it. How could he?

7. It reminded me of that cellphone ad on TV...
...where the corporate fatcat is telling his flunky how the great deal he gets on his cellphone is his way of "sticking it to the Man." The subordinate says, "but you ARE the Man," to which the boss sheepishly replies, "maybe."

Too funny. Let's hope Allen is the Man that gets stuck.

4. they're debating on C-Span right now.
Not a fair fight. Webb's in a battle of wits with an unarmed man.

6. Yeah, and Russert just let the "you had a noose in the governor's
office" go unanswered. More proof he sucks ass. Apparently, being anti-women in combat in the 1980s is equal to displaying a symbol of murder by mob.

Tim?.....Tim?

so he threw out that staged story about his father's football teams. when russert kept coming, allen started bumbling.

8. He's from a "football family," you know.
"Football Family" is the new "Who could have predicted the levies would fail."

11. Yesterday on "Press the Meat"...
... Allen defended some of his whackier comments by saying, "Well, Tim, you know, I come from a football family."

Just struck me as a weird-ass defense for rampant racism, you know?

13. in the JABBS post
there's point about that. that allen said he learned to be tolerant because he grew up in a football family, but that he was a racist because he was a rebellious kid.

somewhat contradictory, huh? :)

12. Okay, Let's Nip This One In The Bud...
My son watches football. He watches NASCAR religously. He still knows, at age 14, that it is UNACCEPTABLE to deride or poke fun at another person - whether that is with a racial slur ("maccaca") or with any other words. My son knows well that his ONLY DEFENSE, should I catch him at it, are the words: "I was WRONG, and I am SORRY." AND he better make ME believe HE believes it.
It ain't about football. It ain't about redneck or good ol' boy. It's about common courtesy, respecting people & a proper upbringing. It is clear that George Allen never had any of those things & it's time people just flat out said that: his parents were remiss in bringing up an ignorant, white trash bully.

14. Hey, I come from a Football Family too.
My father grew up with Lou Holtz, and even roomed with him at Kent State for a year.

I'm a sports FANATIC.

Which is why I found his explanation (even though I may have misunderstood it) to be shocking, and insulting.

16. talk about conflicted
He wants to be a good ol' boy, even though he's not.

He wants to be perceived as not racist, even though he is.

His chances for President are virtually gone, because he won't be seen viable.

18. He said that he made up the word Macaca.
Russert should have challenged that absurd lie.

Allan got that word from his mother who must have used it often. It is used as a demeaning description of dark skinned people where she lived for a while. Allan is fooling nobody, even his supporters know that he is a racist and a phony asshole. His only support will be from those who have similar views that he has, those who know what he is and don't care because they are Rethugs and will vote for any Rethug or people that are ignorant of his views.

19. over the past two months
allen's staff has provided multiple choices for what macaca meant

-- made up
-- he meant to say mohawk
-- he meant to say mullet
-- he learned the word from his staff, and siddarth was ok with it.

whatever he needs to say to win, right?
