Below is an updated list of letters to
Stars & Stripes, which are either critical of the Bush administration in general, or of the wars he has started/policies he promotes. I've broken the original list into two parts, chronologically. The more recent List #2, heading up with summer letters of our discontent, is below. List #1 can be found hyperlinked at

To GOP Congressmembers, governors, and other hangers-on: Don't count on the military family vote.
Face it: It’s about oil/Where was the Air Force, Sept. 18, 2006What will be the outcome in a conflict of civilizations when we accept neither the legitimacy of enemy action nor their outrage when their own citizens are killed?//I don’t believe the events of Sept. 11 happened the way we have been told, and I do believe our Air Force was set up to be the fall guy.
Units leaving, units extended, Sept. 12, 2006I am a spouse of a soldier in the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, which was scheduled to redeploy home from Iraq more than a month ago. Our soldiers’ tour of duty was extended to “quell the increasing violence in Baghdad.”
Losing Faith in Government, Aug. 30, 2006It is unfortunate, but I believe I have lost almost complete faith in my government.
Good reason to 'whine'/The result of complaints, Aug. 23, 2006So understand that sometimes when someone sends a congressional complaint, or writes a letter to Stars and Stripes, it’s not to whine, sometimes it’s in hope of getting someone to notice, to care and to maybe do something about this problem.//I believe that the reason most servicemembers, spouses or family members file these complaints is not because they “have nothing better to do,” but are merely trying to improve each situation any way they can.
Outed GI didn't break law, Aug. 11, 2006Before right-wingers jump all over this letter they think was composed by a “bleeding heart liberal,” please be advised: I am heterosexual, married, Christian and a registered Republican. Welcome to the 21st century.
Value our differences, Aug. 8, 2006Each person is an individual and to define the values of an entire race by the actions of a few is a hateful and dangerous stance.
'Normal' is relative with spouse at war, Aug. 6, 2006We are the families that wait at home. We are the wives who lose our husbands, not to mortar fire or improvised explosive devices, but to depression, post-traumatic stress disorder or divorce.
Sick men in power, Aug. 5, 2006Manipulated, gullible, right-wing Christians repeat the idiotic scriptural interpretation, “This is all predicted in the Bible” to avoid responsibility for electing Bush and to feign powerlessness. While I try to follow Jesus’ teachings, his dumbed-down fan club scares me.
Respect Geneva Conventions, July 21, 2006If we are not going to respect the Geneva Conventions, how can we expect our enemies to respect them? Does this not place our soldiers at even greater risk? Shouldn’t we continue to hold ourselves to the highest of ethical and legal standards as we fight these insurgents?
Ask the tough questions, July 18, 2006We have entered an era reminiscent of high school social life, where opinions are accepted because the football captain or head cheerleader says so. More people vote for the next “American Idol” winner than the president of the United States.
Shut them all down, July 16, 2006Can’t forget to shut down CNN, ABC, CBS and National Public Radio either, because we surely can’t weather any “bad” news coming out of those bastions of negativity. Fox News can then take over as the official news “producer” for the American people and tell us all how things really are.
A matter of genes, July 13, 2006No homosexual wakes up one morning and consciously makes the decision to devote to activities that will earn him or her ridicule, discrimination, humiliation and hatred from people like the letter writer.
A necessary responsibility, July 10, 2006The letter writer derides the American Civil Liberties Union (the only organization in America whose sole purpose is to defend the rights granted to all Americans) and lumps it in with terrorists and pedophiles. Most conservatives feel the same way until the ACLU defends their rights. Just ask Rush Limbaugh, Jerry Falwell and Oliver North, all of whom have been defended by the ACLU.
Proof of global warming clear, July 9, 2006The debate over global warming is over. The National Academy of Sciences — chartered by the Republican-controlled Congress to study the trends in the global climate — reported that 2005 was the warmest year in two millennia.
Liberals have no hidden agenda, July 7, 2006Saving the environment is not some left-wing conspiracy to bring down capitalism. It is to save the environment. Environmental regulations are necessary to keep greedy executives from raping the environment while increasing their profits. If we destroy our environment, we die.
Making generalizations, July 6, 2006Since he finds it necessary to generalize, may I advance some generalizations of my own? That the right-wing agenda includes stripping people of their rights? That they seek to arrest people without charge? That they deem it their right to spy on whoever is “suspect,” including people critical of the actions of the ruling party? That they wish to “Keep America for Americans”? That international laws on torture can be flouted? That laws within one’s own country can be disregarded if found to be “inconvenient”? That they have been proven to have lied to convince a nation to go to war?
Environmental rules not drastic, July 5, 2006The writer of
“Liberals disguise their agenda” (letter, June 29) is obviously a graduate of Ann Coulter’s School of Un-Thought and Name-Calling, since there is not one shred of reasoning in his letter. I could easily shoot down each of his arguments, but I will restrict myself to discussing environmental regulations.
Infiltration of 'born agains', July 4, 2006It’s horrific to see what is happening to our nation and our military. Right from the top we are being infiltrated with these “born agains.”
Freedom to burn the flag, July 3, 2006That Americans have the freedom to burn our nation’s flag in protest is one of the reasons why we live in the greatest country in the world. We should look at the reasons behind why someone would want to burn Old Glory, and not that they do it.
