Temper, Temper: A Few Of Santorum's Greatest Tantrums
September 18, 2006
By: Phil Singer, DSCC

Rick Santorum is losing it and we’re not just talking about his campaign. This weekend, Santorum cursed out a Pennsylvania reporter, saying “I have to raise tens of millions of dollars because of the junk you feed the people of Pennsylvania” and then used an expletive to describe the reporter’s coverage before slamming down the newspaper.

“For a guy who is supposedly coming back, Rick Santorum is acting like he’s about to lose,” DSCC spokesman Phil Singer said. “In Santorum’s paranoid worldview, the press is out to get him and distorts things like the fact that he is George Bush’s ideological soul-mate. Temper tantrums won’t cover up the fact that Santorum is more focused on advancing the Bush agenda than advocating for Pennsylvania.”

No Excuses: In May, Santorum Became Unglued On KQV Radio. In May 2006, Santorum became unglued on KQV radio over the issue of his residency. Santorum began repeatedly yelling at host P.J. Maloney about his unsubstantiated claims that someone had trespassed on his property. Santorum yelled at the host, “quit making excuses for him, P.J.!” When Maloney responded that he was not trying to make excuses for anyone, Santorum continued to yell “all you’re doing is making excuses!” The two minute exchange continued to be heated with Santorum yelling or raising his voice throughout.

Attacking the I-Man: Last Year, Santorum “Lost His Temper” on Imus. Discussing prewar intelligence and the Valerie Plame leak on Don Imus’ show last November, Santorum suddenly became very defensive. “We are talking to Senator Rick Santorum who has clearly lost his temper,” Imus said, after asking Santorum why he was “snapping with me.”

Professional Decorum: Santorum Reportedly Used Expletive to Describe Senate Colleague. In 1997, during a heated discussion between Santorum and Sen. Dianne Feinstein about Sen. Mary Landrieu’s election, C-SPAN cameras reportedly picked up Santorum turn to a colleague and mouth “a word that rhymes with witch.” The comment was not picked up by microphones.

Road Rage: Santorum Allegedly Harassed Woman Got Into a Near-Accident With. Driving in D.C. in 2002, Santorum hit the open door of a taxicab. The passenger in the cab, Elizabeth Croydon, said, “He came close enough to terrify me. I was in shock.” Croydon said that she then received “harassing phone calls” from Santorum for a few weeks, demanding insurance information. “She was hardly in shock,” Santorum argued. “I was driving very slowly in the right lane, less than five miles an hour, toward a red light, and suddenly this car door swings open in front of me. I hit the edge of the door and there's a dent on the front of my car. In fact, she told me she knew it was her fault. She said she didn't have her insurance information with her but would be happy to provide it later. I tried to call her three times, and she hung up.”

1. Lil' Ricky is showing his true colors.
We all know he's nuts. The rest of PA needs to know it, too.

2. He called Casey a "thug" over the trespassing claims.
If Bob Casey is a thug, what would Santorum call his own friend, Jack Abramoff?

4. total embarrassment
I live in a very conservative part of the state where even the Democrats tend to be moderates ( voted for Specter etc) But Santorum is so out of the mainstream here. I groan whenever that man opens his mouth. He does not represent the people of PA well (that can be taken two ways and it's accurate either way)
Pray for us in November!
