1. I don't think the war is winnable in a military sense unless...

the US contemplates the use of nuclear weapons to make Iran submit like Japan after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Otherwise, the US will be forced to sacrifice untold numbers of US servicemen trying to subdue the country. Even if the Iranian government officially agrees to surrender, it is no guarantee that Iranian citizens will listen to the government's message that the war is over and lost.
