How can the Dems change the media from saying "The Dems have no ideas"?
Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 09:54 AM by Roxy66
Whenever I hear talking heads analyzing the Repug vs Dems, I always hear the same thing..."The Democrats have no ideas and stand for nothing". We all know how idiotic that sounds, but how do we get that changed to "The Dems stand for Truth, Justice and Freedom....The core basis of our country. The leaders of the Democratic Party have got to change this...How?

1. So how come the repukes keep saying that we will spend all the money?
I mean, if we have no ideas, then we're not spending the money that the Repigs keep saying that we'll do ...

Everytime that Dems come up with something, the repukes keep saying "Where ya gonna get the money for that????"

It's a catch-phrase ... and it shows the idiocy of the speaker ...

Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 10:02 AM by Roxy66
He hit on this and said..."Dont you want to pay your firefighters?...Dont you want to pay your teachers?...etc" He was asking the right questions...I wish the Dems would.

5. We can't.
The only way to get them from saying what they want to say about us is to buy them, which I don't think anyone here has the kind of money to do.

20. For starters...
Honesty
Fiscal responsibility
We are all in this together
Level playing field to succeed
Don't start wars unless there's a damn good reason (and oil and my Daddy was a target isn't those)
The commons
We are only as strong as our weakest link
People are generally good, and that should be incouraged
Corporations are our slaves, not the other way around
Capitalism serves man, not the other way around
God gave all of us water, not just rich guys who know a legislator
Protect and preserve the planet...it's the only one we have
People are more important than property, or property contracts.

Chew on those for awhile, and I've got more when your ready.

It is a bit of a lost cause ... As long as corporate interests have conglomoratized the MSM, a "conservative" agenda will ALWAYS permeat ALL news coverage ...

6. How did the GOPs get the media to adopt THEIR storylines?
They spent the last twenty five years buying control of the broadcast and print media.

You think they're going to share their precious booty with the Democrats?

8. Get more agtressive about being on Television, for one thing
Some of the best Democrats are rerely seen on the talk show circuit, while centrist hacks seem to prevail.

Cong. Jan Sciakovsky (spelling?) is very articulate, passionate, down-to-earth and progressive, for example, but she is seldom on. Barbara Boxer is on sometimes, but compared to someone like Joe Biden, she's a hermit. Cong. Pete DeFazio is a pleasant progressive firebrand who often teams up with Bernie Sanders in the House, but is hardly ever on the talk show circuit....Many others too numerous to mention can make the case for new ideas very convincingly, but don;t push to get on to counterattack the pundits and the GOP hacks.

IMO, Democrats -- especially liberal and progressive ones -- should launch a full-court press to get onto those shows and talk to print reporters to counter the Rovian bullshit and the flaccid laziness of most political reporters.

9. One thing they can stand for is fair treatment from...
>>>Whenever I hear talking heads analyzing the Repug vs Dems, I always hear the same thing..."The Democrats have no ideas and stand for nothing".>>>>

the media. The commercial 'news' media, particularly electronic media, is so biased toward the right and toward the republicans it has become a bad joke.

One of the reasons ABC was able to get away ( or thought they would be able to get away with) airing the 9-11 movie fiction and passing it off as reality is that DEM protests had no *context* to them.

Leading DEMS do *not* take the media to task for its bias and its failure to report *real* news. They have said nothing while the RW has exerted ever-increasing influence over both radio and TV 'news' and 'analysis'.

So when the 'path to 9-11' protests were raised they lacked the impact they would have had if the party leaders had been *consistently* speaking to the issue all along.

10. "Freedom of the press belongs only to those who own one" - Jefferson
We don't seem to own any MSM so in effect the question is "How do Dems get GOP media to stop sying they have no ideas?"

About the only thing I can think of is to consistently use contrast in our soundbites. I wanted the theme of the midterms to be Time for the Truth eg. "People on the other side of the aisle are fond of saying we have no ideas but that is only because they don't want to talk about the truth -- the truth about WMD, the truth about their disasterous Medicare reform program, the truth about Iraq." Our ideas are based on dealing with reality -- not with propping up sagging poll numbers for the pResident and his Iraq war. This November it's time for the truth.

'Wolf, if you were actually PAYING ATTENTION you'd know we have a 5-Point Plan and have been speaking about it for months'. Why repeat tired, GOP Talking Points?

Katie, if you'd been DOING YOUR JOB, you'd know we've been speaking about our 5-Point Plan since this past Winter. Why regurgitate Rove's Talking Point for him?

Brian, how could you not know Democrats have a 5-Point Plan, we've been laying it out for Americans ALL YEAR. Why do the GOP's work for them?

18. That is true ...
To an extent ... Part of the problem is these spineless pukes are afraid to get pushed around ... If the Ds hit them a bit, they would respect them ... But, not surprisingly, there is a talking point that would be applied - "those angry liberals" ...

21. First, they have to get their 5 point plan into consice words.
THEN, EVERY TIME a Dem in on TV, REPEAT the plan! I hate to suggest copying from the Pugs, but you have to admit, their way works! How do you think we all know what the NEW RALKING POINT is? Even the media was making a joke about how everone sswitched fromStay the Course" to "Win By Adapting",but it seems like Laura didn't get the memo!

Repeat, repeat , repeat, is what I think works! EVERY Dem must use the same words, and sooner or later, even the media will remember!

And then get rid of the GOP types who are controlling them. In the short run, call any talking head out when they pull this bullshit. Every single "Democratic Strategist" should read the freakin' DNC website for our plans.

29. Do the Dems really believe that if they held a full court press
...accusing BushCo of war crimes and attempting to subvert the Constitution and international law, the media wouldn't show up? By god, it's time to fight fire with fire -- it's PAST time. Who CARES how the GOP reacts? A reaction is what the Dems WANT. You have to get and keep them on the defensive. Give the public the truth, start a raging media battle over it! The corporate media will salivate and be on it 24/7 like a duck on a junebug.

For crying out loud, do the Dems need to have their hands held with every little thing they do?

30. We probably can't until we can actually PASS our ideas
and to do that, we need to control at least something.

Sure, the Dems aren't passing any legislation.

But Republicans are the majority party in both houses and they control the White House.

So why haven't they gotten their shit together and passed all the things they promise?

Can't they get their shit together?

Or do they not have any ideas?
