Bush to Be Met with Anti-War Protests Outside UN Haider Rizvi, OneWorld US
Tue Sep 19, 12:14 AM ET

UNITED NATIONS, Sep 19 (OneWorld) - When President George W. Bush makes his way for his speech to the United Nations General Assembly Tuesday, he will likely be greeted with angry slogans by anti-war protesters.

Thousands of protesters are expected to gather outside the UN headquarters in New York to renew calls for an end to the occupation of Iraq that has cost the United States billions of dollars and over 2,500 human lives.

Since the occupation started in March 2003, more than 100,000 Iraqis have died as a result of the U.S. military actions and the subsequent suicidal attacks carried out by the forces of resistance.

"We want an immediate end to this war," Susan Chenelle of United for Peace and Justice (UFPJ) told OneWorld. "This is a protest against Bush's freedom agenda because we believe that occupying other countries is not the path to freedom."

Of course I was born and raised there, so I'm biased. But now I live in Atlanta and I can't imagine anything like this happening here. I MISS NY!!!

6. Thank you to all for representing the thousands of us who cannot be there.
You have my admiration and gratitude for making it known to the world that even though Bush has a rubber stamp Congress, the American people have not rubber stamped his (mis)administration.

13. Surely the NYT will be all over this, right?
After all, I think it was one of their columnists who recently made a sneering reference to the dearth of anti-war protestors, and wondered if none of them had the courage to stick with their positions. So front page coverage of this street demonstration in the Times will surely follow. Right?

Right?
