At what point does the military say "Just say No"?
Will there be a time that our military leaders realize the foolhardiness of this quest for domination? With Schultz and Powell coming out against Bush's redefining the Geneva Conventions...and they are both well connected with the military.
I truly believe if we were to go into Iran, that our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq would become sitting ducks and the casualties would be massive.
Will the military allow that?

2. That is what prompted my thinking.
I doubt we will have tanks rolling down Pennsylvania Avenue, however, somewhere, smarter, cooler heads HAVE to prevail.

3. I believe there are, somwhere in the ranks...
men who took their oaths seriously, and literally.

4. In most cases they never do.
That's because power knows the value and risk of a renegade military and carefully controls it by key appointments and training. Sure it happens once in a blue moon but I think we'd be much more likely to see it from a random national guard group then we'd ever see it from a top tier or unified source like the pentagon.

History is full of armies willing to blindly obey. Can you count the exceptions on more than one hand?

If we organized camps similiar to what Obredor did in Mexico City, but in every major city in this country....NY, Chicago, Los Angeles,
Boston, Philidelphia, Miami, Houston, Dallas, et all, we could force the
sheeple to sit up and take notice!!!!!!!! Shut the cities down!!!!

14. In a so-called democracy, for "The People" to be so cowardly ...
... that they expect the military - the BOTTOM of the food chain in a democracy - to do the job the people are unwilling to do (lest they disturb their comfortable lives) is despicable, imho.

If the people aren't willing to assert their sovereign authority over their government EMPLOYEES (including some sociopath squatting in the White House) then they don't deserve to live in a democracy. No wonder ours is headed down the sewer.

15. Absolutely correct.
However, I wonder at what point the military lets their own be sacrificed.
There isn't any way in Hell that American's are going to get up off their asses and do anything about it. I mean, American Idol is going to start before too long...

16. There are several ways for a democracy to die.
A military rebellion/coup is one of them. Lest we forget, that's the way Batista took power in Cuba originally. Such history has repeated itself many times.

There are no prominent 'heroes' in Thailand's political 'leadership' today. The conflict between royalists and right-wing corporatists is "no win" for the ordinary people. (Global corporatists have, in effect, 'colonized' Thailand for some time now.)

10. I fear that unless TV and football are taken from Americans
Many would surrender everything else. Our problem in a way is a good one...We do have it very good, overall...NOT saying there isn't huge room for improvement but until American's lives are directly impacted and made uncomfortable, most will do NOTHING.
