New Fox Unit To Produce Christian Films
The company that brought TV viewers racy and irreverent programs such as "Nip/Tuck," "Temptation Island" and "The Simpsons" has found religion.

In the biggest commitment of its sort by a Hollywood studio, News Corp.'s Fox Filmed Entertainment is expected to unveil plans today to capture the gargantuan Christian audience that made "The Passion of the Christ" a global phenomenon.

The home entertainment division of Rupert Murdoch's movie studio plans to produce as many as a dozen films a year under a banner called FoxFaith. At least six of those films will be released in theaters under an agreement with two of the nation's largest chains, AMC Theatres and Carmike Cinemas.

The first theatrical release, called "Love's Abiding Joy," is scheduled to hit the big screen Oct. 6. The movie, which cost about $2 million to make, is based on the fourth installment of Christian novelist Janette Oke's popular series, "Love Comes Softly."

1. Even PAX has found that the market for this is limited
but I relish the fact the Murdock is going to blow some cash on this.

6. Yeah, Passion Of The Christ was pretty much a fluke.
I'm sure a lot of the success attributed to that film had to do with the near-insane amount of media hype it got.

7. "FoxFaith," huh?
Sounds like another company has another product to sell to enough gullible people in order to make a profit.

Do you think there are enough sincere, naive Christians in the USA?

(Luke 17:1) Then, turning to His disciples, He says: "Woe unto him through whom offences come! It were better for him if he had not been born, or if a millstone were hanged about his neck and he were cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones"

10. Judging from the reviews on the Amazon site.........
yes, there are PLENTY of naive, gullible people who would buy this trash. Don't forget, these are the same people who think Bush is doing a great job, who hate gays, believe war is right and just and are awaiting the rapture. They have no concept of reality, they're "bubble-people", just like their good, christian leader. :puke:

FOX is just out to make a buck. They play every side of every coin to cover all of the bases. Money is Murdoch's god and the gullible fool is his target.

15. Kinda has the same ring as "McChurch", doesn't it?
Fox or not, this is just another small, niche-market enterprise
to produce low-budget, straight-to-dvd schlock.

If these geniuses think any of their products are
ever gonna recieve the kind of audience that
"Passion of the Christ" did, then maybe I should call
them about this bridge I have for sale!

8. All of the wingnuts have been babbling
about how Hollywood never produces anything that "speaks to mainstream America". Lets see if this stuff "speaks" as loudly as they claim it will, or if they are the mainstream they think they are.

13. yet, since Hollywood turns out several $100+ millon films each year
I'd say that they are pretty damn good at producing things that speak to mainstream America.

They know what people want to see.

16. Of course they do
The problem with the wingnuts is they refuse to believe they aren't mainstream America.

14. Its one of the ironies of being Christian in America
everything is marketed toward you, because there are so many of you.

And nobody has it both ways quite like the Christians in America.

When they need to feel persecuted, they talk about how oppressed they are, and how they can't celebrate their religion, and how everyone is anti-Christian.

But when they need to force their beliefs on others, they suddenly talk about how everyone everywhere is Christian, and what a majority they are.
