I'm getting sick and tired of groups on our side screwing me

over with spam....simply by helping them out with important action.

I recently signed online petitions at Think Progress and the DNC to protest ABC/Disney's lousy Path to 9/11 - - and what's my thanks? Now I'm getting junk mail, including those asking for donations. :wtf:

Even when I gave money to the Red Cross for the tsunami and Hurricane Katrina....I got inundated with fund raising and other e-mail.

It took me about six "unsubscribe" e-mails, including one threatening to never donate again, for the Red Cross spam to stop (and I love Red Cross).

I think it's total B.S. that you try to help out with causes, but by doing so, you pay the price in spam.

Makes a guy not wanna help out anymore...you know?

1. My Grandparents get hysterical every time they open their

mailbox. The get stacks and stacks of letters asking for money. Sure, they donate to some, but the people who they donate too will turn right around and sell their doner list to other charities. So it really increases the flow of spam they get in their mailbox.

if I wasn't getting emails, I would be getting more junk mail. When I get junk mail it feels like my $25 donation went to buy stamps, envelopes and photocopies so that I could get a bunch of letters asking me for more money!!

3. I feel your pain and I started using an email address that I don't care

about, for giving out to organizations.

I keep one email for trusted sources

This approach keeps me from getting aggravated.

I'm going to start using a separate Yahoo or Hotmail address for that purpose.

It just seems really scummy to spam us, because these organization should know better that many of us don't want all of this junk mail!

6. Good organizations are puting themselves in the

same category as the companies that flood everyone's in box with Viagra, male enlargement, herbal this and that, ViCoDiN cHeAp, etc. advertisements.

Yes, I can delete, and no I don't lose sleep over it......but it's the principle.
