Five of the names on the list are currently under federal investigation: Senators Conrad Burns (R-MT) and Bill Frist (R-TN) and Representatives Jerry Lewis (R-CA), William Jefferson (D-LA), and Alan Mollohan (D-WV).

A majority of those listed are Republicans, several of whom have been linked to the spreading Jack Abramoff and "Duke" Cunningham scandals. As well as those cited as being under investigation, the Top 20 includes such high-profile names as Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) and Representatives Roy Blunt (R-MO), John Doolittle (R-CA), Tom Feeney (R-FL), Katherine Harris (R-FL), Richard Pombo (R-CA), Pete Sessions (R-TX), John Sweeney (R-NY), and Curt Weldon (R-PA). Representatives Chris Cannon (R-UT) and J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) are among the dishonorable mentions.

However, the report does not spare Democrats, even popular ones. As well as Representatives Jefferson and Mollohan, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) and Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) are both cited for using their offices to benefit family members.

Now, I sure don't pretend that Dems are all angels! But Jack Murtha????? What am I missing here????

2. Murtha has had ethics problems in the past...

mainly concerning his brother who is a lobbyist and some of his ties to defense contracting, but most notably he was involved in the ABSCAM scandal.

I'll almost guarentee that the Murtha problems are from his tendency to slide defense work to clients of his brother, Kit, a defense-industry lobbyist. Yes, it stinks, but it's more or less par for the course in Congress.

5. Murtha has been the Pentagon's darling for years

and has supported every outrageous thing they've ever wanted. Undoubtedly he wasn't doing it out of the goodness in his heart.

Building a 250 million dollar bridge to connect an island with 50 people living on it (enough for each resident to purchase a jet Bell helicopter to fly to the mainland), and then threatening to quit the senate in a huff if he didn't get it, qualifies him for pork gone utterly and completely off the charts. That is corruption personified, when the public fisc is raped and plundered.

And no, I don't have a link to which contractor bribed him to get this contract. I'm guessing in a couple of years they'll indict him for that, AFTER he has raped and pillaged the treasury

14. You do know that Ketchikan airport is the ONLY international

airport in the USA without road access. While it may be an extravagance it certainly is not criminal nor a sign of corruption. If you are going to accuse one of corruption at least understand what you are saying. It would appear by your definition that all highway pork is built around corruption instead of just trying to bring money home to constituents. I don't happen to agree.

The Dems are free-lancers. The Republican National Committee has morphed into an Organized Crime Syndicate. They certainly aren't interested in running progressive reformers in their national races.
