that Spell Check is of the Devil and should therefore be avoided at all costs. If they doubt a word's spelling, they just pray about it and, unless Jesus or Bush tells them otherwise (via vision or what-have-you), they trust that every word is absolutely perfect.

14. Because they're anti-intellectual.
Back in the 60's and 70's, they gained favor with conservatives by calling us "the liberal elete". They claimed that college students, grads and intellectuals in general considered themselves "elete liberals" who thought they knew better than everybody else. It resonated with alot of blue collar workers and "ordinary Joes". There was quite a bit of resentment of college student demonstrations at the time, so it worked really well for the conservatives. Pretty soon, being an intellectual was ridiculed and the great conservative "moral majority" movement began. It's all been dowhill from there.

Is how she is always pulling back her hair and flinging it across her shoulders. I mean, who does this? Where did she get that gesture? It reminds me of something vamps did in B movies that were made in the 50s.

Well, whatever. She must think it does something for her; what I cannot imagine.

The only thing funnier than criticizing someone's spelling is making spelling errors while doing the criticizing. (Bilble, possiblilities)

I look at ideas. Everyone makes spelling mistakes, typos, and/or grammatical errors at some point. Small potatoes in the big picture.

47. Finally!
A rational post. I swear to god peoples fuckin' obsession with people spelling around here is out of control! I don't get it...... i do well to spell my name. I often mess up so bad spell check can't figure out what i am trying to say. Do i not have the right to express myself, even though my spelling and grammar are very suspect( atrocious really).

I guess it's easy for small minded folks to look at such an inconsequential think as spelling, criticise it and feel bigger, smarter, and supierior for it.

Buncha asshats is what i think the are......insensitive jerks.

48. please understand something. for those who do, in fact, know
how to spell correctly, the sight of misspelled words, or grammatically incorrect usage, particularly for those who used to be editors, can be as painful as fingernails drawn against a chalkboard. it isn't about being "insensitive jerks", it is about appreciation for what is supposed to be your native tongue.

Edited on Thu Sep-21-06 07:25 AM by William Bloode
People seem to get an awful big kick out of it. Folks could be big enough to actually to find something real and tangible to make a point about. Not something so small and childish.

And all the other "editors", and other spelling or grammar nazi's need to get a grip. You need to realize a large portion of people here in America may not have the greatest educations. I have got a total of an 8th grade formal education, so i guess since my poor writing style offends people like you so much i should climb in a hole and never voice another opinion.

Point is Democrats claim to be the party that respects and help the poor and underprivileged like myself. But a sad fact is that when someone like me may tries to make a point, you would enjoy ignoring the point altogether. Yet make pithy remarks based on spelling.

To folks like you a bit of misspelling might seem like some nails on a chalkboard(poor you). While making fun of someones spelling can be more akin to a slap in the face. You never know why someone may have poor spelling and grammar. It could be poverty, or a learning disorder, meaning you may be disenfranchising the very people you purport to help.

75. please indicate where I have made fun of anyone's spelling--
that whole post was exceedingly defensive, and for no good reason. I don't make fun of people's spelling (well, except for the people from freeperland) and I don't dismiss points simply because they are not grammatically correct, so knock off the attitude. all I was doing was indicating why such things bother some people, period. your tirade and your defensiveness are your perception of what is going on.

25. I really believe they have been "dumbed down" over the last few decades.
The other month, I happened to come across an old copy
of "Life" magazine from 1970; apparently it was the issue
AFTER the one that covered the Kent State Massacre.

Reading the "letters" section from that month's issue
was a bizarre experience. There were PLENTY of Freepish
missives supporting the "brave National Guardsmen who
quelled those rioters and restored the Almighty ORDER" :puke:

But what was STRIKING: the people saying those things WROTE WELL!

It wasn't simply spelling the words right. They wrote in complete
sentences. And they assembled those sentences into COHERENT
paragraphs.

Their letters had a beginning, a middle, and an end; they displayed
a logical progression of ideas from 'opening statement' to
'closing arguement'.

It was like reading letters from some strange alternate reality where
the Freepers weren't just hypnotized, emotionally reactionary
catchphrase-repeating parrot-monkeys.

And, I realized it really WAS a different reality in 1970.

31. Little known facts:
Upon registering at FweepieLand, LGF or ano other places those so inclined go to ghetto-ize themselves, a secret government agency tasked to create an army of warriors just slightly more intelligent than a slightly-damp Boston Fern aims malign mind-cancellation rays at them. This reduces measurable brain activity to just the brain stem and 2.5 to 9.397 neuronal connections in the entire cerebrum and cerebellum.

Yes, it's Better Living Through Science in Action.

Oh, and those brain control waves are earth-penetrating. They have to be, since it has been found that 99.767% of all posting to those sites takes place from the basements of middle-aged to elderly women who have borne children within the last 20 years or more.

No mention was made of the usual piles of wadded up tissue that always seems to be found in the corners of said basements.

..."alot" of DUers can't spell either. Sometimes I'm "appauled" by the spelling around here.

For the record:

alot = to portion out to; "You must complete the task within the allotted time."

a lot = a large amount of: "A lot of DUers can't spell."

Ya got me. :)

It's infectious. Still, "alot" is a new word invented by the internet generation that really gets on my nerves.

67. Because being stupid means you are
"common folk" and "plain spoken." Knowing how to spell, punctuate and use proper grammar is too elitist. To be a freeper one must take pride in one's stupidity. The dumber you are the better an American you are!:P
