I identify with the love/hate relationship with the slow, simple, southern small town you came from. I've even felt the same way. I understand the sentiment, but the comment most certainly was too broad and unfair to the people who raised her. She probably doesn't even mean it.

There are people who need us to be divided because we really should be united. When we accept the divisions as the Roves, Cheneys, and Clearchannels have defined them, we simply become part of their plan and accept the terms they've established to their advantage. She could wield considerable influence if she didn't alienate her own hometown -- cathartic as it was.

I've lived in small towns with the same. Where there was one radio station and one newspaper. That one radio station was/is far right as can be.
