HOUSTON - Former Enron CEO Jeffrey Skilling was ticketed for public intoxication earlier this month in Dallas, according to a newspaper report.

Skilling, convicted in May of 19 counts of fraud, conspiracy, insider trading and lying to auditors in the investigation following the company’s 2001 collapse, was arrested about 1:45 a.m. Sept. 9, according to a report in Wednesday’s online edition of the Houston Chronicle.

Skilling apparently will not go to jail early for violating terms of his $5 million bond. Petrocelli said the incident was investigated and the court required him to increase the frequency of his visits with mental health and alcohol treatment counselors.

In April 2004, Skilling was involved in a scuffle with patrons of a cigar bar in New York City. He wasn’t arrested, but he and his wife, Rebecca, who was hurt in the incident, were taken to a hospital where a blood test showed Skilling’s blood-alcohol level to be .019. Witnesses said Skilling accused some of the cigar bar patrons of being FBI agents.

IOt is a favorite excuse to arrst and jail people. Suspicion of public intoxication-then they can claim you were under the influence of nefarious undetectable drugs. I have heard of numerous cases here.

... and they don't have to take a breathalyzer, a blood test, or anything else. If they decide you are intoxicated, you are intoxicated, period. I know, I got to spend a night in jail for my ignorance.

Basically, PI is a bullshit charge the police can levy against anyone they wish to arrest, and you have no recourse.

I say we hold a pep rally/fundraiser for poor ol' Jeffy (he's so cute; he even reminds me of that kid Jeffy from the beloved Family Circus cartoon). I mean talk about bad luck! When he tries to unwind with a few cocktails with his wife while on a well-deserved vacation, he's got the terrible misfortune of wandering into a cigar bar that apparently is a hang out for all the local FBI agents. Will poor ol' Jeffy ever catch a break?

7. Why isn't he in jail.

While rich Republicans are under house arrest, pending yet another appeal, poor people serve real time. Does anyone have a study on how money influences jail time? How much longer from trial to incarceration? How much shorter the actual time served? I'd love to see the charts.
