Congressman Conyers: A Do-Over
A Do-over

Today in the House Judiciary Committee we defeated the Bush Administration's military tribunal legislation, a bill sought by the President so he could continue his program of countenancing and encouraging torture.

Democrats, voting with unity, were joined by a number of Republicans to defeat the bill 17-20. That was until later in the day when, in a despicably cynical maneuver, the Republicans employed a rarely used legislative procedure to re-take the vote. The second time they succeeded.

Republicans will go to extreme lengths to disguise the immorality of this program and the dissension rife within their party. This do-over vote the Republicans conducted today demonstrates how willing they are to trash the democratic process to advance this despicable program.

There is no clearer indication that our country urgently needs new leadership, and oversight, in Congress.

I just moved to the south of you.

I am sick of the repukes showboating on something as important of torture to look like they have morality, and decency only to come to an "agreement" which is totally bogus, to look like they are doing something.

There is zero credibility.

7. You're in the North Country?
Corruption, cheating, lying and just plain stealing seems to be how they rule.

If they ever did anything honest or straightforward, I think I'd shit myself.

14. Victorian, Queen Anne.
with some swedish stylings on the slate roof called a dichromatic pattern.

House is 1880, 6300 square foot. Designed by an architect from Ogdensburg NY, named James P Johnston.

We bought it to restore it, a very daunting task as the entire third floor has been sealed since the 1940's ( we just got the bats out )

The slate roof is the biggest pain, gonna cost about 75,000 to completely restore, the first two floors are remarkably well preserved...including two 10 foot front doors made of stained glass.

13. You're a lot closer to me than you think
I'm in Perth.

And wow, that's some digs you got there. How do you wind it up?

I'm in an old bulding myself. A former church, built in 1892, but now with modern siding.

I always show my visitors the hand-chopped, 13" radius floor joists.

Welcome to Ontario!

15. our beams are only 8 inches to hold up the roof...
Edited on Thu Sep-21-06 10:32 PM by Brundle_Fly
We haven't been here long enough to check the beams in the inside, but I didn't know there were trees as big as some of the beams I have seen in other places here, so who knows.

Perth is very nice, I drove through on a little tour of the hoods here with my wife, I especially liked Merrickville.

here is me in case you are ever in brockville, I live across from city hall, and will have coffee on.

5. Egg on face. Dems favorite makeup.
This makes, to so many people, the Dems look less than brilliant.

They're going to have to realize that the RW plays with Marcus of Mayberry rules, and are going to have to think hard in order to develop some strategies for all these shennanigans.

Being outsmarted time after time .... well, it just doesn't come across very well to the average voter.

6. If they weren't there to fight this at the time
how do you blame the Dems?

Blame the Nazi repukes for sneaking a vote in when the Dem members were gone and working on something else.

8. Of course the RW are the "bad guys" We all KNOW that. Dems
are smart enough to come up with some strategy, after all these years of being outgunned.
