Whether we have anything to do with it, I don't really care in the context of this question. The climate has changed many times, well before anything that looked like a human showed up.

For the sake of argument, lets say that whatever is happening today is the natural cycle of the planet. Would you want to stop it if you could?

1. If it is Gaia's natural rhythm no.
If I thought we didn't influence it badly? no. I wish I could take our whole species back 30,000 years and make it live more harmoniously and I'm sure our mother earth would have extended our lease a lot longer.

2. The thing is, that it *isn't* a natural cycle.

Climate scientists almost universally agree on what is causing this. Those who cite natural cycles are not necessarily disagreeing, however it is being spun that way. It's just part of normal scientific thoroughness.

Likewise, Gaia. What support for Gaia that exists should not give comfort to new agers who seem intent on exploiting the science that exists to promote their strictly philosophical and ideological claims.

7. I'm also of sick of New Agers twisting Lovelock's ideas.
"Earth as Superorganism" is a METAPHOR used by Lovelock for all the interrelated negative feedback loops caused by the interaction between Life and the rest of the planet, The Earth is not "literally" an organism it just has organism-like qualities because of the negative feedback loops.

3. Billions of people will die, the world economy will collapse.
Nope, wouldn't change a thing...

:sarcasm:

Earth, as we speak, is shifting into a climate phase that won't be particularly hospitable to human beings. We are creatures of the ice age.

4. I would stop it from changing so QUICKLY.
It has never before warmed so quickly. Humans, plants and the ocean life have no time to adapt. If it were occuring over thousands of years, as it has before, it would be a different story.

5. I am part of nature
Therefore if I could and did do something to the climate it would automatically be part of the natural cycle.

Your question is a false construct.

6. If you are asking, could this be a good thing,
the answer is no.

It's not about having an extra month on the golf course,
as my republican uncle thinks.
It's about global catastrophe for your children and
grandchildren.
