RFK JR's NEW DIEBOLD EXPOSÉ!, MD Gov Demands Paper & More...

NEW RFK JR. ARTICLE ON DIEBOLD SAYS 'ELECTRONIC VOTING CAN'T BE TRUSTED'!
BRAD BLOG SOURCES, STORIES COVERED EXTENSIVELY…

EXTENDED EXCERPTS FROM THE ARTICLE…

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who filed a landmark article last June in Rolling Stone concerning evidence of a stolen 2004 Presidential Election in Ohio, is set to rock the country again in tomorrow's Rolling Stone, The BRAD BLOG can now report.

Through interviews with a number of BRAD BLOG insider sources over the past several months, Kennedy, along with co-writer Dick Russell, will expose a plethora of new details in the scandalous overtaking of our public election system by private companies such Diebold, ES&S, Sequoia and others.

The article is titled: "Will The Next Election Be Hacked? - Fresh disasters at the polls — and new evidence from an industry insider — prove that electronic voting machines can't be trusted".

Many of the items covered may be familiar to readers here, as several of them were broken originally on these pages. We worked with Kennedy and Russell on this story during its development over the past several months.

The article, however, covers several new and sometimes explosive details of Diebold's rollouts in both Georgia and Maryland dating back to 2002, as well as Florida, Ohio and Texas in 2004.

Characterizing the unchecked spread of electronic voting as "insane," Kennedy and Russell conclude, "It is time for Americans to reclaim our democracy from private interests."

Some of the damning details covered in the extensive piece include: the now-infamous and mysterious patch applied to the paperless touch-screen systems in GA just prior to the Chamblis/Saxby election; the presence of Diebold elections division president Bob Urosevich in the tabulation room in MD in 2002; Diebold's interest in downplaying, hiding the significance of several scientific reports in 2004 warning of the vulnerabilities in their machines; Rep. Bob Ney's (R-OH) involvement with former staffers and Diebold lobbyists in passing the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) through congress; ES&S shenanigans in Texas in 2004; E-Voting anomomolies in Ohio and Florida may have given the election to George W. Bush; the Diebold electronic voting machine which kicked off the 2000 Presidential Election debacle…

Extended excerpts from the article are now available at...

3. But what to do? For godssakes, tell people to VOTE BY ABSENTEE BALLOT
this fall in a MASSIVE PROTEST against these MACHINES!

It's the best, quickest, smartest way to bring this rigged system down quickly and peacefully. If everyone who despises the Bush Junta (60% to 70%!) votes by Absentee Ballot this November, the reign of these diabolical machines is OVER--and Bush with them!

By FLOODING local/state election officials with MOUNTAINS of AB votes, we can put sufficient pressure on them to FORCE reform NOW. They can't have large numbers of people BOYCOTTING their shiny new election theft machines. It exposes THEM. It makes these big purchases they've been party to ridiculous. They won't be able to withstand it.

We can't count on the Diebold Congress to do anything. They PREFER fiddled votes, corruption and fascist government. The local/state jurisdictions are our main hope, and MASSIVE Absentee Ballot voting is the key to moving them.

Besides, people NEED to PROTEST! Give them AN ACTION! This is IT! This is something EVERYBODY can do. (Most states have some form of AB voting.) It is a hopeful action, a peoples' action. You don't like Bush? VOTE ABSENTEE!

And where possible, tell them to hand-carry it to the polling place or registrar's office. GIVE US BACK PAPER BALLOTS, GODDAMMIT!--is the MESSAGE.

There is still time to pass it with just a few legislative days left, but we're gonna have to work quickly and LOUDLY!

I'm getting contacted by a bunch of folks on Capitol Hill! Please apply pressure to them NOW! Here's a link to help: http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/

8. DON'T Vote Absentee Unless you Must!

If your ONLY option is a touch-screen voting machine, then yes, Absentee is the way to go.

Otherwise, if you've got optical-scan paper ballots as a choice on election day, that is FAR preferred over absentees for a number of reasons. Amongst them, I'll remind ya, the absentee ballots are also scanned with an optical scanner in most cases. But unlike election day op-scans, they may not be counted on the day of the election at all!

Further, there is no tracking for Absentee ballots! They are scanned straight into the tabulator (if they are received by mail at all). Atleast with precinct based op-scanning, there are various safeguards and tracking that can be done throughout the day. Not so with Absentee.

If you MUST use absentee, feel free to xerox it first before sending it in, and send it certified receipt request. If your jurisdiction allows you to hand-deliver it to the polling place or board of elections, do that instead.

9. Here's the full article.
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/11717105/robert_f_kennedy_jr__will_the_next_election_be_hacked/1

This paragraph, on page 2, really blew my mind:
Then, one muggy day in mid-August, Hood was surprised to see the president of Diebold's election unit, Bob Urosevich, arrive in Georgia from his headquarters in Texas. With the primaries looming, Urosevich was personally distributing a "patch," a little piece of software designed to correct glitches in the computer program. "We were told that it was intended to fix the clock in the system, which it didn't do," Hood says. "The curious thing is the very swift, covert way this was done."

Georgia law mandates that any change made in voting machines be certified by the state. But thanks to Cox's agreement with Diebold, the company was essentially allowed to certify itself. "It was an unauthorized patch, and they were trying to keep it secret from the state," Hood told me. "We were told not to talk to county personnel about it. I received instructions directly from Urosevich. It was very unusual that a president of the company would give an order like that and be involved at that level."

In case you don't know who Bob Urosevich is, here's an article on him and his brother Todd.

http://www.onlinejournal.com/evoting/042804Landes/042804landes.html

From there:
April 28, 2004—Voters can run, but they can't hide from these guys. Meet the Urosevich brothers, Bob and Todd. Their respective companies, Diebold and ES&S, will count (using both computerized ballot scanners and touchscreen machines) about 80 percent of all votes cast in the upcoming U.S. presidential election.

Once again we are witness to an “eyes closed, hands off” approach to protecting America. The 2004 election rests in the private hands of the Urosevich brothers, who are financed by the far-out right wing and top donors to the Republican Party. The Democrats are either sitting ducks or co-conspirators. I don't know which.

This is the first I've heard the story about Urosevich personally distributing a patch. Company Presidents for companies the size of Diebold don't normally personally distribute software patches, especially for something as trivial as a clock patch (which didn't even fix the problem). Plus, they tried to keep it secret. This is just too weird and the only logical explanation makes my hair stand on end.
