Ad featuring Sen. Burns' OWN WORDS "too vulgar" for TV!
Edited on Thu Sep-21-06 04:27 PM by DinoBoy
You might remember about a month and a half ago, Montana's junior senator stumbled upon wilderness firefighters in the Billings airport and proceeded to verbally assault them for being "lazy."

The Montana Democratic Party has produced an ad attacking Burns' behavior at the airport and used his own words, including the phrases, 'A piss poor job,' and, 'he hasn't done a Goddamned thing.' Unfortunately, the Montana Broadcasters Association has decided to recommend stations pull the ad because they're afraid the FCC might find it too vulgar and may levy fines.

Un-fucking-real!

Ad criticizing Burns yanked
By MATT GOURAS - Associated Press Writer - 9/21/06

HELENA — A television commercial slamming Sen. Conrad Burns for cursing at a firefighting crew could be too vulgar for broadcast television, the Montana Broadcasters Association is warning its members.

Citing the Federal Communications Commission's "current stance on indecent language," association President Greg MacDonald advised stations Wednesday to pull the spot or check with attorneys before airing it.

"While we have no idea how the commission might come down on such language in a political spot, we also don't want to test the waters at $325,000 per violation," MacDonald wrote.

8. That ad writes itself
"We'd like to tell you what Republican Senator Conrad Burns thinks about hardworking firefighters, but his attacks and insults toward these brave men and women are so vulgar that the FCC won't let us air them."

Then show a link where people can go see it for themselves.

10. Exactly!
This episode I am sure will make it into an ad, and I think something like what you just suggested will be what happens.

9. Burns: Unfit For Human Consumption
30 seconds, white on black, and a URL for more info.

What complete bullshit this is - after all the horrific things Burns has said over the years, "goddamn" is the indecent language these idiots focus on.

11. The party did make an ad concerning his "stay at home mom" comment
Which is vulgar IMHO, but aparently not swearing, so it doesn't count. It's toward the bottom of this page:

12. I remember "slave auction"
Talk about wanting to put a bag over the entire state - how friggin' embarrassing was that?? And absolutely more vulgar than "goddamn". And oh puhleeze - what Montanan do you know who doesn't use "goddamn" in their every day language? Criminy.

14. Actually this works well for Tester
The story now becomes that TV stations fear showing the ad because Burns' words were too obscene for television. People get reminded of the incident and Tester does not have to pay anything for the publicity. This is a win-win situation!
