US threatened to bomb Pakistan 'back to stone age' after 9/11: Musharraf

EW YORK (AFP) - The United States threatened to bomb Pakistan "back to the stone age" in 2001 unless it cooperated in the US-led war on terror, President Pervez Musharraf said in an interview.

Musharraf, whose support for the US-led invasion of Afghanistan was instrumental in the fall of the hardline Taliban regime after the September 11, 2001 attacks, said the threat came from former deputy secretary of state Richard Armitage.

The Pakistani leader said the comments were delivered to his intelligence director, according to selected transcripts of the interview with CBS television's "60 Minutes" investigative news programme due to be broadcast Sunday.

"The intelligence director told me that (Armitage) said, 'Be prepared to be bombed. Be prepared to go back to the stone age'," Musharraf said.

1. Let me see if I understand this...
Iraq: 0 9/11 attackers
Pakistan: 0 9/11 attackers

Saudi Arabia: 15 9/11 attackers
UAE: 2 9/11 attackers

Bush tried to turn over control of US ports to UAE, and kisses and holds hands with the Saudis. But he bombs the Hell out of Iraq and threatens to do so with Pakistan?!?!?

Hugo Chavez was right...

2. ...and US intelligence made use of BCCI
You remember, that Pakistani "outlaw bank". Interesting. Maybe Pervez is playing to the home audience.

3. Boy, I bet that helped Pakistan decide to give up its nuclear weapons
These nazis are so STUPID. If I was a corrupt backwater despot, I'd be trying to get a nuke too, just be able to take someone else with me if the U.S. attacked. Pakistan should have said, fine. We're taking out New Delhi, you motherfucker.

4. Horseshit! Musharraf and Pakistan have been working with BFEE for decades
You think BushInc would have let AQ Khan get off with a slap on the wrist if Poppy Bush and his cronies hadn't been involved with the arms dealing and proliferation along with Khan?

6. A few years ago a Pakistani cabdriver told me this strange story:
Edited on Thu Sep-21-06 06:10 PM by Jeroen
He told me that his uncle is an officer in the Pakistani army. This man works for Strategic Command at a nuclear weapons launch site. On the night when the war against Afghanistan began, numerous U.S. strike aircraft where in flight to bomb targets in Pakistan. Musharraf called Bush and threatened to strike India if the attack against Pakistan was not called off. Nuclear weapons were armed and ready for strikes against India. India urged the U.S. to call of the attack and was also on high alert”.

I told the cabdriver that I had a hard time believing his story because I never heard anything about it in the news. He said something like: "believe whatever you want. A lot of people in Pakistan and India know this. We were on the brink of an all-out nuclear war."

Sometimes his story comes back to me. After reading this post and learning about the ISI connection with 9/11, I am not so sure anymore what to think. (We were driving from Rotterdam to Den haag (The Hague) so please ignore my spelling ;-)

Jeroen
