Can't wait to see All the King's Men.
I just saw Carville on the Colbert Report. They seemed to get the feedback thing going with one another. It would be so cool to just let those two riff ad infinitum.

I didn't know Carvill is the producer for Sean Penn's new movie.

1. I'm looking forward to it, too. Love the original. Crawford's portrayal of
Willie Stark is one of the greatest of all times.

3. That's a good idea. I will order the original film version too.
It will be interesting to compare them.

5. It's absolutely worth it. Broderick Crawford is wonderful.

He won an Oscar for his performance, Mercedes McCambridge won Best Supporting Actress for hers, and the film won Best Picture.

2. The local reviews are coming in
I WAS all excited, had family members work on the film, but the early word around here is sucky. I will probably see it anyway but I may stick to the 1949 version.

All the Kings Men (2005) Movie Review

By: MovieFanatic

"Overwrought" and "overdone" is what I said to myself as I was watching this film at the Toronto festival. So overdone, Hollywood and shallow. Cardboard characters who were either all good or all bad, with the exception of Jude Law, who is, well, confused.

Everything about the film is BIG. It did hold my attention. It was dark, with a BIG menacing music score. But everything including the casting is over-the-top. Penn is a great actor, true. and he was good and in a Pennish way. Gandolfini was hard to see as other than Tony at first. He tried but the character had no depth. Anthony Hopkins also is hard to see as someone else then "Anthony Hopkins". Jude Law, an excellent actor who struggles I think in being so "pretty", is a fine actor. Clarkson was good in the overwrought style of the film.

6. One of my favorite books - I can't imagine how the film would be
anything but a disappointment for me. I will probably see it though, it has to be better than all that other crap floating around Hollywood.

7. I know I'll see it because the book's great and I think Penn will be good
in this version. I'm watching the Broderick Crawford version now (just bought the dvd). The bits of the new version they included on this dvd look fine.
