It appears that the nationwide Republican strategy is to attack the character of their opponent:
The most recent Grams charge of a lax Oberstar voting record follows the former senator’s claim that Oberstar was not a frequent enough visitor in his own district — a vast one that stretches from the Canadian border up north to Anoka County in the south.
(snip)
Oberstar called Grams’ claims “incomplete and misleading documents.” Voting records from the Clerk of the House show that Oberstar cast 439 out of 460 votes, with a voting percentage of 95.4 percent.
“It’s time for the games to stop,” Oberstar said.
And, responding to previous claims by Grams that the congressman did not travel enough in his district, Oberstar disputed the assertion that he journeyed only nine days in the 8th District in a 15-month period from December 2004 to February 2006, saying that he traveled nearly 11,000 miles in his district during that time period. He also said that while in office, Grams had developed a reputation for not traveling to rural Minnesota.
