Are the neoconazis afraid of going to jail or not?
I've seen several articles and opinions suggesting that all this begging for torture laws is really all about keeping dubya and his masters immune from prosecution for all that they've done in the last 6 years. Do you think that they are really concerned that they might be arrested for war crimes, or do you think that they could give a flying fuck?

Some think that these ghouls and pirates will get off without a day behind bars, in fact most think that. Presidents don't get arrested. Period. The pals of the president don't either.

Some say the neoconazis are bold and unafraid, others suggest they are quaking in their boots at the notion of a nation pissed off.

Which is it?

1. I wish they were quaking in their boots.
That at least, would bring a small smile to my face. Alas, I don't think they're the tiniest bit fearful that they will one day face justice.

3. The Real Question Is: WHEN Are They Going to Jail?
The frantic ass-covering in DC isn't going very well, and the pressure simply will not let up.

4. It will be hard to jail them if America can come up with
legals means to justify the crimes.

And America needs those legal means if the myth of America as the "good guy" is to continue.

Just the smallest piece of rope is needed to hang on to and point to as justification.

This isn't about Bush going to jail so much as it is how America will explain away Bush's crimes.

Bush doesn't want to go to jail...but America would rather Bush didn't go to jail than allow her image to be tarnished in such a way that leaves no doubt.

So the guise of being legal helps to fight the tarnish. It allows doubt..the kind of doubt called reasonable doubt in the courts...if there's a reasonable doubt Bush's actions were legal, then what happens? We're taught reasonable doubt means you vote "not guilty"

And by America I do mean her government...

This is why we get words and phrases like "mistake" and "bad intelliegence"...

A mistake isn't a crime...and if you make a mistake because someone else gave you bad information,. how can it be your fault? (so the Iraqi invasion is explained away as a mistake instead of the crime it is...and people are all too willing to accept this...it's easier than facing the truth)

Bush says "America doesn't torture" - and people want to believe that...so any excuse that aids that desire to believe will be accepted.

And if the slimmest legality can be pointed to to show that everything Bush did was legal, then torture can be explained away because it's been hidden behind the "rule of law"...the lie becomes the official history

and think of how the "rule of law" is cornerstone to our government...and all that implies

We're taught to believe in and respect the "rule of law"

So if Bush is within the rule of law, how can he be a criminal?

We are witnessing the whitewash of history.

We are witnessing America explain away her crimes.

We are witnessing the past through the present.

This very moment in time calls into question all that went before this moment, and what will come after this moment.

The people will either buckle to the whitewashing or they will rise above it - and demand a renegotiation of the social contract and demand more from government.

This is much bigger than just Bush going to jail.

He should go to jail...he needs to go to jail.

And if he doesn't go to jail, that signals that America wants the whitewashing of history.

5. If Kissenger Is Still Free Why Would George Worry?
If old Henry couldn't be tossed in the can what are the chances of seeing Bush behind bars?

6. Precisely. America's history shows that our government would rather
allow criminals to go free than to ever admit accountability that would tarnish America's "great democracy" image.

7. If I may add a third option,
Edited on Fri Sep-22-06 06:43 AM by Progs Rock
I'd go with:

antisocial personality disorder

Diagnostic criteria (DSM-IV-TR)

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, a widely used manual for diagnosing mental and behavioral disorders, defines antisocial personality disorder as a pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others occurring since age 15, as indicated by three (or more) of the following:

1. failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest
2. deceitfulness, as indicated by repeated lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure
3. impulsivity or failure to plan ahead
4. irritability and aggressiveness, as indicated by repeated physical fights or assaults
5. reckless disregard for safety of self or others
6. consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain steady work or honor financial obligations
7. lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another

The manual lists the following additional necessary criteria:

* The individual is at least age 18 years.
* There is evidence of conduct disorder with onset before age 15 years.
* The occurrence of antisocial behavior is not exclusively during the course of Schizophrenia or a Manic Episode.

A mnemonic that can be used to remember the criteria for antisocial personality disorder is CORRUPT:

* C - cannot follow law
* O - obligations ignored
* R - remorselessness
* R - recklessness
* U - underhandedness
* P - planning deficit
* T - temper

"Corrupt" is rather fitting!

8. In the prounciation of "neoconazis" where does the stress fall?
I don't think they are afraid of being punished; they are certain of their ideology to the point of insanity. They do not live in reality.
