2. Funny, but still
it's a ridiculous idea. Somewhat more ridiculous than his "axis of evil" bullshit.

8. Did Nancy Pelosi call Chavez a thug?

This is the only place where she is quoted but she did NOT CALL CHAVEZ A THUG!

Leading Bush critic at home calls Chavez a "thug"

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - One of President George W. Bush's fiercest political opponents at home took his side on Thursday, calling Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez a "thug" for his remark that Bush is like the devil.

"Hugo Chavez fancies himself a modern day Simon Bolivar but all he is an everyday thug," House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said at a news conference, referring to Chavez' comments in a U.N. General Assembly speech on Wednesday.

"Hugo Chavez abused the privilege that he had, speaking at the United Nations," said Pelosi, a frequent Bush critic. "He demeaned himself and he demeaned Venezuela."

Simon Bolivar led the fight for independence against Spanish rule in several South American countries in the early 19th century and is cited by Chavez as a political model.

Chavez, a vociferous critic of Bush and the United States, has allied himself with U.S. opponents Cuba and Iran and has led a resurgence of left-wing populism in Latin America.

"The devil himself is right in the house. And the devil came here yesterday. Right here," Chavez said as he stood at the U.N. podium where Bush spoke the day before.

"It smells of sulfur still today, this table that I am now standing in front of," Chavez said.

His remarks drew applause from many of the delegates.

Bush administration officials have not responded directly to Chavez's remarks.

"I am not going to dignify a comment by the Venezuelan president to the president of the United States. I think it is not becoming for a head of state," Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Wednesday.

16. Bush is indeed a devil.
I believe that Mr. Chavez was saying it tongue-in-cheek, and people can and should debate if that type of humor is appropriate at the UN. But there really is no question that President Bush is a devil. The word means a "doer of evil." It implies a malignant personality which causes suffering and harm to other people. It is possible that some democrats, from the comfort of their living rooms, will have a different view than the people of Central and South America, the families of the Middle East, or the inhabitants of Asia. But, unless we want to limit our definitions to the plush sofa from which we view the debate on tv, or from our personal computer, it seems possible that we can be so mature as to recognize the suffering that Bush has caused the human family.

I remember the support this country had from the global community in the days after 9/11. Is there anyone so blind as to not recognize that the level of support we had was significant? It mattered? If so, how do we then take the position that the contempt and distain that the world feels for our country -- which is absolutely a result of George W. Bush -- is their problem? But don't call our president undignified names? Even if it is nothing if not a play on Bush's "axis of evil"?

In that Good Book, there is an example of the Master turning on his close friend, Peter, and saying, "Satan, get ye behind me." And that is because, in the most literal sense, that name implies a person who mixes up the teaches of a higher level, and attempts to place them on the lower level. Many people in the world, including a heck of a lot of democrats at the grass-roots level, are aware of the absolute danger that Bush's confusion of religious teachings and his role as president, pose to many people on this earth. It might be remembered, from our comfortable homes, that Bush is allowing his religious dogma to influence his decisions on potentially striking Iran. I may not be a fan of the current leaders of Iran, or particularly care for Chaxez. But as an American, it is important to me to recognize that what this administration is doing in the world is wrong. It is the cause of so many people laughing and nodding their heads when Chavez spoke.
