Almost every post someone is mad at something.. Jeez Francis lighten up...

I don't know what makes you mad, but I can tell you what is making me mad and that is that my Son has been in Iraq for almost 9 months with three more to go (we hope).

I am not hearing near enough talk about ending this war... I see my son and others like him fighting for decades and that is what is making me mad...

We have to pick and choose our battles, there are so many of them it seems these days, I know.. But there are some that are worth fighting and some that are just not worth the effort at all...

...almost nothing sets DUer against DUer as much as Hugo Chavez. Any time he's in the news, you're likely to see DUers getting pissed off with one another.

The coming election is also bringing moderates and purists to blows even more regularly than usual.

Things will get friendlier as and when the stories "in the air" are things that most DUers agree about - when Bush next gets into the news for doing something spectacularly dumb, all will be sweetness and light again, or at least slightly more so than at present.

Since the 70's we've had ourselves a class of "enemy" in this nation, where we lacked a real one we created a new one with the drug war. Year by year the results got worse and year by year we increased our effort. Heroin and cocaine are both cheaper by far adjusted for inflation than they were when we started, death rates on both have climbed by several times, potency is up on heroin by quite a bit and on cocaine some at the street level and we're still pushing the same decades failed policies. This walked us right into the mindset we've got today which allows us to torture, to imprison, to do anything we "feel" is a good idea without ever checking the results. We're used to acting like that.

We torture them because we've done it to our own and got away with it for so long.

When we stop trying to act as if this all snuck up on us without warning and start taking responsibility for the direction the nation has gone over the last 30 years or so then we'll have a chance to change things. As long as we won't even consider as a nation how we got this bad in the first place we won't get out. We can do it to others because we grew so comfortable doing it to our own.
