Poll question: What should happen to convicted sex offenders who target minors?
Adults who abuse minors and/or peddle and posess material containing the abuse of minors should be:

(For anyone wondering why I made this poll, just check GD.)

1. I like the options
"Kill them in a barbaric manner."
"Lock them up forever."
"Slap them on the wrist."

Push polling much?

This is, of course, not even getting to the ridiculously broad category in question (covering anything from molesting a young child to possessing drawings of post-pubescent minors).

5. Not a push poll
The option of "other" is there.

2. Wow, nice poll options there
:eyes:

Personally I'm in favor of a really long sentance in not jail but treatment. I think life sentances that can be reduced if treatment is completed successfully are a pretty good idea.

6. I guess you missed "other" as an option?
I can't believe anyone here thinks treatment cures or even mitigates pedophilia.

Would YOU allow a convicted child molester to babysit your child if he "completed treatment?"

8. No. Would I freak out if he lived around the corner? No.
Watch your kids and don't assume anybody has good intentions.

13. I'm glad to hear that
But I find it concerning that as long this person may harm other people's kids "around the corner," you seem copacetic with that.

Pedophiles never change, why would anyone want them roaming free after being convicted just because the child they will abuse next is somebody else's child?

17. First of all, the evidence doesn't suggest that they "never change"
Second, there's never really been a intensive effort at treatment.

I fail to see why other people aren't obligated to look after thier children either.

19. wow
You already said you wouldn't allow a convicted and "treated" child molester to babysit your kids. Why is that? Is it because of your strong belief that treatment works?

20. I don't even let most of my family members watch my kid.
I'm not saying that treatment is 100% effective, just that your assertion that it's a waste of time is not true. I'd not leave a treated child molestor around my kid unsupervised just like I'd never leave a treated alcoholic overnight in a liquor store. Treatment should be a lifelong thing, but some people should be able to move from inpatient to outpatient treatment.

11. I guess somebody missed that it's the "justice" system
Not the "vengeance" system.

You or me?

Notice option #2. That is justice not vengeance.

12. That depends on the treatment.
Castration, for instance, might actually work (although I don't know if there are any studies that investigate its effectiveness).

18. It might work in some cases
If it's a case of someone being genuinely attracted to pre-pubesent children, I don't know. But there are a lot of cases where sexual abuse is more of a power thing than a sexual thing. I don't think castration would help very much there. And then, as I said before, the term 'sex offender' can be applied to lots of very different crimes.

3. Other: It would depend on the case
In our current society, under the current laws a "convicted sex offender" can be an 18 year old dating a 16-17 year old. Or even in some cases, two 16 year olds who have sex.

Oh brother...

But let's protect terrorists from torture, the same people who kill countless of innocent civilians in order to advance an agenda.

7. ?
Read my title, it says "convicted" sex offenders who target children.

Not presumed guilty, but convicted.

I don't understand what your problem is.

9. My problem is with those who turn rabid and feast over "frying" somebody.
That's my problem.

It was one option, along with many others on my poll.

What do you think should happen to convicted sex offenders who target minors?

Until we can identify the truly cured,we have to lock them up.
