Shallows

When I was twelve we went fishing

and came upon a place

Full of fish

That went to spawn

And then the dam closed

and made shallows

and the mothers

could not leave.

Jeff and I rolled up our

pants

and Jeff grasped the net.

I grabbed the paddle.
