France to probe bin Laden death report leak
11 minutes ago

PARIS (Reuters) - France's Defense Ministry said on Saturday a secret service report saying al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden had died could not be confirmed but said it would launch an inquiry into the leak of secret documents.

"The information published this morning in the L'Est Republicain newspaper relating to the supposed death of Osama bin Laden cannot be confirmed," the Defense Minsitry said in a statement.

"The Defense Minister has asked that an inquiry be carried out to determine the origin of the leak that can be punished by criminal charges."

1. Now why would anyone want to suppress such news? And who?
The suspense is killing me.

4. LOL Looks like they can't decide whether it's better for him to be dead,
or still alive so they can keep scaring everybody about him.

6. Prediction: OBLs frozen stiff body will be pulled out of
a "spider hole" toward the end of October to much fanfare and with a press conference. After the election, OBL will release one of his famous Top 10 video productions and we'll be "on the hunt" again with a newly installed MMC in the Congress.

9. If it can be proven that he is deceased it would be
a plus for the Busholini Regime. They will no longer be hounded to find him. It would make little difference regarding al Q though. They will carry on without him.

12. i understand what you are saying but don't EXACTLY see it that way...
here we see before us a presumably dead usama bin laden, so as to say; a guy they should have found & caught years ago...yet they as well have a shitty, hellish, waking nightmare of a non-stop-never-ending war in Iraq costing billions in blood & treasure!! for no reason whatsoever. and now this presumably dead bin laden...to what end?

to prove how right bush was to destroy the world for no reason? to get those bastards that brought the towers down? that would imo make the fiasco in Iraq even more pronounced still, and here's where i see what you are saying...

as is the way of these things, bush will get his bump and it may be a big, and not easily palatable one to digest especially here at du. but the greater fact will remain; the greater fact is that bush remains a brutal, sadistic, willfully ignorant thug...and i don't see that as a plus for the cheney admin, his "decider" will be seen clearly as having made all the wrong decisions

10. Strange wording (something lost in translation, perhaps?)
"The information ... cannot be confirmed", but "the origin of the leak ... can be punished by criminal charges". That sounds as though they are convinced it's a leak. Are they saying it's a genuine French secret service document, but they think the Saudis could be talking rubbish?

11. The next Bin Laden video will have him
kind of propped up, leaning to the side, toothpicks holding his eyes open, we won't see his lips move but he'll make threats against the US if we vote for Republicans and the analysts will say his message is a very ominous one, but his health looks great.
