What deal did Bush and Musharraf agree to?
You can bet that Mr Bush used all the money at his disposal, the US Treasury in his view, to try and bribe Musharraf with a "deal" of some sort. However, what would that "deal" be? My guess would be that it would have something to do with the election in November? And perhaps Osama bin Laden?

When he brought Musharraf into the White House with all the flags, military guards, and ceremonial trappings, it was meant to impress upon Musharraf that Mr Bush was serious about his side of the "bargain". Will we find out what they really discussed? Do you believe there was a "deal" made?

1. No.
This is the unfolding of Bush rule gone way bad. It has to be ugly, doncha know.
Pakistan will never give full respect to us. Why should they. They have nukes.
Bush is not a peace master. Nor a dimplomat. He may spew stupid rhetoric. But there was no deal.
Count on it.

2. Perhaps that Musharraf better cooperate with Bush......
to make sure bin Laden is captured right before the elections, or else.

3. It might have something to do with this
I posted yesterday but did not generate much interest.

Or maybe something with the reports of OBL's death leaking out from a French newspaper this morning. Either one. Or both. That is my guess.

4. .
Bin Laden will never be killed by the 'coalition' because he is more useful alive and scaring America than dead.

Second, Musharraf is nothing but a product of his situation. If he moves to appease the US too much, he will be killed by his countrymen. Too far the other way, and they get the Armitage Special.

Musharraf has no ability to do anything. He is simply negotiating for his own hide.

Bin Laden will die or he won't, and it won't have a DAMN thing to do with either gubment's efforts, since both government's very survival depends on Bin Laden's continued freedom.

Both governments would quickly collapse if he were caught. The bump for Repubes would be quickly dissolved and other issues would take over the agenda. Musharraf would be put on the spit and eaten for dinner for his treason.

Both are happy with how it is now, given the options.

5. This Smells Like Rove
The tip-off was Musharaf book hustle. This entire trip was set up to make buzz...for his publishers, CBS and, of course, this regime. I can't think of another "leader" who was in office who put a book deal ahead of the best interest of either his own people or world peace. Musharaf is a hack...bought and paid for.

I'll bet this whole thing was set up. It's more red meat for "the base" and another chance to control the news cycle. All the cable channel were abuzz on this all day and hate radio has jumped on it big time as well. The meme is that Musharaf is a toadie to this regime and we'll bomb and run roughshod over whomever we please. I'm already hearing that old meme "you're either with us or with the terrorists" coming out again. This regime doesn't care how it win as long as it wins and its got lots of friends and money to make sure that happens.
