Democrat Carol Shea-Porter

I donated $75 today to Democrat Carol Shea-Porter, who is running for US Congress from New Hampshire.

I appreciate what she wrote about civil liberties:

The men who wrote our Constitution were no strangers to danger. They had seen their land under attack, and had struggled for years to defeat the enemy. If after all that, they had blundered and returned to monarchy, if they had given in to fear, they would never have written those incredible Amendments. They had to conquer fear, trust their fellow citizens, and still stay vigilant against all enemies. They peeked into the future and wrote a Constitution that is the envy of the world. They protected us against government misbehavior, because they understood human nature and government abuse of power.

Now we have a president and many legislators who believe that those laws don't apply to them.

She proceeds to crticize the destruction of civil liberties under Bush, such as letting the FBI write its own "National Security Letters" instead of getting a warrant."

1. Go Carol!
I'm also glad that she's hitting Bradley on privatization...although I'm not sure if that will gain as much traction, considering that New Hampshire is an economically-libertarian state.

2. Wonderful!
There are so many exciting Congressional candidates this year. I just think we have a great chance to take back the House. I'm working hard for Andrew Hurst (VA-11th). It's great when you can meet and shake hands too with a candidate (today is actually the third time I've gotten to meet Andy Hurst). Your Congressman is so much closer too and able to help you with stuff like Workman's Comp, than a Senator would be.
