Anyone watch that new show Jericho on CBS...

If didn't catch it, the show opens in small town Amrica. A nuclear bomb explodes towards Denver. Then they find out one explodes in Atlanta. Small town is fighting over gas. Kids returning from field trip get into accident. Prison bus gets into accident and rogueish prisoners are now out armed and dangerous. Right before the "blackout" of all communication, the president is addressing the nation on t.v. speaking about terrorism.

All the subtle hints to remind Americans why to be afraid of nuclear weapons and terrorism. The show isn't bad. Personally, I think the town is rallying quite well considering the circumstances. Tells me big govt is such b.s.... but for those fearful, here is doomsday right in your face before big election time.

.. I think that almost all of the shows on tv deal with some aspect of crime or the military.

It's as though there's an obsession with law and order, aspects of war, and Americans
as the strong, straight forward, let's get the job done at all costs to keep .... safe and return
the ... to normal.

The whole premise of Jericho is based purely on fantasy. No town that close to a nuclear
explosion would be able to do what they're doing. The producers or whoever just want to
show a sensationalist view. Also, I'm not the type to let a show indoctrinate me into the
wildwest stereotype of heroism in the face of crime, terror, betrayal, espionage, etc.... I just
enjoy it and move on. I know that most of the crap we see on tv is propaganda, especially
the real stuff, much less the fiction. I know that war is hell, and that real people die and
suffer greatly because of it. I know that crime and law and order doesn't occur in that
sensationalist fashion all that often, but that the media make a big deal out of it when it does.
These shows could thus also be seen as big advertisements for more oppressive police
forces and prisons. Ugghh.

Still, I like all the shows. I watch them, although I see a lot of retreaded material. After a
while, I realize that it's going to get old and I'll really yearn for those old timey sitcoms and
catchy melodramas. We'll see...

3. I saw it... Thought it was ok...

A bit cliched, but something to pass the time. The thing that interests me is finding out the backstory... This is one of those shows that are trying to tap into the "Lost" fanbase, where things are not as they first appear, and not all the back story is known at once. In fact, we don't even know for sure if -any- nuclear bombs have gone off... One mushroom cloud was seen, but a sufficiently large conventional bomb (such as the recently detonated MOAB) also makes a mushroom cloud. All we know about what happened in Atlanta was... Something Bad. The only clue available is some conversation heard over the phone. For those that missed it, it goes something like "Hey honey, come over here and look at this." "What's That.... Oh MY GOD!" ::rumbly sounds, phone goes dead::

I think the entire episode is available on Google TV or Yahoo Video or something like that...

Oh, and for the love of all that's holy, do -not- view the "webisode" on the official CBS site... I've seen better acting and scripting on teen YouTube videos.

5. I watched it Tuesday night I think. I can't believe there's a series

on about a nuclear bombed coutry. Fictionalized Survivor series? Not my idea of a nice way to spend the evening. Show was good. Just have enough problem with reality and how bad it is. I sure don't need to look at that.

6. At least it's not a comedy...

Fox had a comedy about 6 survivors of a nuclear war called "Woops!" bac kin '92. LAsted about 10 epsisodes. Farily horrible, but the Christmas show with Santa was a hoot. Very dark, but still a hoot....

7. That's not the impression I got, ie, to be constantly afraid...

but then again, I have a relatively high IQ, 169. There were a few things that I was wondering about for instance, the fact that that little boy's mom wasn't aware of the explosion in her area until her boyfriend brought her attention to what I can only surmise was pressure wave and the expanding firestorm coming toward her. I was also a bit dubious about the fact that although the people are able to view the explosion in Denver, they have no interruption in electricity, something that would have been INSTANTLY cut due to the EMP from the detonation.

It is interesting, if for no other reason than being different from all of the other drivel that is on network tv.
