In fact, he just became ruler of the emirate of Dubai a month ago.

As I pointed out in one of my 9/11 Timeline entries, this same al Maktoum liked to go falcon hunting with bin Laden in Afghanistan:

As a recent Washington Post article points out, the emirate of Dubai owns Dubai Ports World, the company in the center of this controversy, which means that al Maktum, as the royal ruler of the emirate, is the owner of the company. The article even has a picture of him with Kofi Annan:

It turns out that in early 1999, after the August 1998 bombings of the US embassies in Africa that made bin Laden the most well known and wanted terrorist in the world, UAE royals were still falcon hunting with bin Laden. Here's my timeline entry on the matter:

BUSHwhack/amBUSH "journalism" ... makes the second question a sheer right-wing trap and then BLAMES Clinton, in answering it, for the violation of the 50-50 interview agreement of Global Initiative vs. bin Laden. His faux naivete is disgusting.

The Clinton adminstration had what? perhaps a year or two even without intelligence/CIA offering 'certainty' that bin Laden was responsible for the Cole?? With the right-wing GOP yelling "wag the dog" and doing absolutely everything to block funding to go after bin Laden, Clinton came far, far closer to getting him than George Wanker Bush has gotten in FIVE YEARS with a totally compliant Congress, HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS in funding, contorted intel, a virtually total gutting of laws and practices that run roughshod over our civil rights and, with absolutely everything he's demanded, STILL hasn't gotten anywhere but making terrorism TEN TIMES THE THREAT it was in 2000.
